Residents in Bwaise and Kalerwe slums live in settlement extremely congested, prone to floods and disease spread is wide as a result of floods. The project aim is to empower dwellers to access citizen media and make their problems known to the public.
Selected participants will be trained to blog and upload captions of situation scenes on social networks and video coverage, creating a documentary which will be uploaded on youtube.

What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
A documentary will be filmed to illustrate scenes of floods, situation stories, and narratives of challenges faced by the community. Photographs will be taken to create a story of the situation in community on issues that affect their health and livelihood. Such captions shall include sanitation and hygiene of the place, disease outbreak and property destroyed by floods.

I have contacted the LCIII chairperson, division clerk, community development officer and LC1 chairpersons of various zones in kawempe division.
There is hope for future partnership with ‘ACTogether’-a national NGO charged with providing technical and financial assistance to Uganda slum dwellers federation.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
Twenty participants;15 youths and 5 adults shall be trained : The community leaders will aid the selection of participants through recommending able, disciplined, active and consenting members to lower probability of dropping out. There will be continued mentoring and support of participants on values of self help community groups and we shall work together with fore-mentioned humanitarian support NGOs in empowering the community.
