Dawson Wambi Jr was burnt by a mob of church goers in Northern Uganda in 2001 and Dawson Wambi Sr was murdered by village mob in Eastern Uganda in 2012. Ironically, both victims, working for peace, justice and community development under Uganda Joint Christian Council and Mpolyabigere Community Library respectively suffered mistaken identity. The project intends to mobilize local communities to observe human rights and to stop mob violence.
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
The participants will be trained to construct a blog site celebrating the life and positive contributions of different households in the local community where the victims were raised, served and buried. Villagers will record video interviews and short stories on the contributions of the victims of mob violence in community development and highlight the loss incurred. The blog will show what ought to be done to promote human rights.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
There is already existing partnership with African Educational Program that has featured Dawson Wambi Sr. as Educator of the week, Uganda Community Policing and Religions for Peace. We hope to partner with United Religious Initiative where Dawson Wambi Jr worked as Uganda Contact Person, World Council of Churches, Uganda Human Rights Commission, Ministry of Education and Uganda National Agricultural and Advisory Services among others.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
The project seeks to train 20 interviewers, bloggers and change agents in all the 40 local communities where the victims had a great impact during their life time. They will in turn train 10 local informers or news agents in every village who will carry out research and advisory services to targeted households. The change agents will be given bicycles, stationery and digital cameras while news agents as certified volunteers get airtime credit.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
We shall need eternal experts to help in mobilizing the affected communities to avert distress, handle conflict and post conflict situations, trauma healing and arbitrate reconciliation to end further violence. The project needs Rising Voices to connect the voices of the people to other voices to ensure that justice is seen to be done. This will give hope to the suspicious mobsters and give chance human rights winning over evil acts.
