The project will provide smart phones to 40 already existing AHURIO network of Legal Aid Community Resource persons (LACORPS) and trained in using web 2.0 tools and other smart phones mobile technologies to monitor, document and report cases of human rights violations in Rural Kyegegwa and Kyenjojo districts. After the training cases of human rights abuses will reduce.

Kyenjojo and Kyegegwa Districts, Western Uganda
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
Kyegegwa and Kyenjojo districts are highly rural areas with limited access to the legal services because of poor roads and other communication facilities, limited legal providers and poverty. The population of the two districts is very conservative and negative cultural practices like limited active participation of women in decision making deeply enshrined in the community values leads to high human rights abuses.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Stories on mapping human rights abuses in Kyegegwa and Kyenjojo districts especially cases of domestic violence and child labour, success stories in monitoring human rights abuse especially stories on consultative meetings with key stakeholders and impact on the use of appropriate ICT tools to improve legal access and support to the marginalized population groups of rural women and children.

AHURIO is a membership and non- membership Organization operating in the seven districts of the Rwenzori region, Western Uganda. With the increased cases of human rights abuses in 2004 AHURIO started the LACORPS project in Rwenzori. In Kyegegwa and Kyenjojo District, AHURIO already has 67 LACORPS monitoring, documenting and reporting cases of Human Rights abuses. This intervention will build on the already existing AHURIO network of LACORPS.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
The project will train 40 LACORPS from rural Kyegegwa and Kyenjojo districts in using appropriate mobile phone technologies and web 2.0 tools to monitor, document and report human rights abuses. Since the rural areas of the two districts are connected with mobile phone networks, 20 smart phones will be provided to 40 LACORPS to facilitate the rural LACORPS sustainably participate in discussions on human rights for improved advocacy.
