Girls in Sri Lanka are challenged with access to education, health and participation in society due to lack of transportation. The project is training girls in ICT, digital media and soccer skills providing computer, digital camera internet access, e learning material and trained to create and share digital media stories shared on a facebook group about their communities . The project will form “Dumbara Media” a Community Media Unit. This project need funding to conduct community media training for 30 girls and 10 boys.

A group of soccer playing girls in Dumbara mountains trains to enter national team. The inherit from traditional art and dance community. They want to become sports media professionals and soccer coaches. Some trained in ICT, have access to a shared laptop, internet and a digital camera. They come from poor families yet determined to succeed with their football and art talents. We believe in their vision and commitment. They can become future media and community leaders as the project links to school education too.

What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Photographs, videos, blogs and audio of people, community events. 1m Short documentaries about people and life in Dumbara. Topics Clean River, Polythene Pollution, Education Issues, Violence against women, Gender equality, culture stories, youth talents and environment. The idea is to enable youth expression through digital media. Youth will create stories about their community and issues they want to talk about.

How many participants do you think will be trained in your project?
20 Girls are already training in the project. Additional 10 girls and 10 boys between age 12-18 shall take part in digital media & internet training. The training will be 12 Saturdays at Soccer Ground and Amunugama Government School

Windows 8, Adobe Photoshop, Elements 11.0,, Adobe Premirre Elements 11.0, Audacity, formatfactory Google Chrome, Facebook, Youtube, Blogger. Storyboard makerCanon A2500 digital camera, Canon 700D DSLR.
This tool set creates a foundation for community media aiming to develop future media professionals. They are simple to use and has wizards that can help fast learning and production. The software obtained free from Microsoft and Adobe Foundation.

Amunugama Government School has water , electricity and a computer lab with 10 I3 machines. Youth are given an I3 , 4GB Laptop and 2 canon Digital cameras.
What is your current relationship with the community with whom you plan to work? What makes you the most appropriate individual or organization to implement this project?
We are conducting math classes and soccer coaching to girls in the community. We have several other youth groups in dumbara Area who will work as volunteers. We have community and government relationships in the area. We have won World Youth Services Award in Media creation. We can set a global example of how to develop girls through soccer and community media.
What specific challenges do you expect to face when planning and implementing your project?
The participants are young people, their security and safety is a challenge. Their parents and teachers shall be involved in training sessions.

Keeping Participation Records. Skill levels reached, Number of media produced and shared.
Number of views online, comments and feedback. Media submitted for adobe youth voices awards, media competitions. An evaluation report produced and shared online with wider global digital community.
