To empower youths technologically in areas of photography, video making, simple writing basics and poetry. The Rainbow-musings project is meant to rejuvenate youths of Lugbe, most of which escaped from far North-eastern Nigeria where government forces are battling insurgents who believe that ‘western civilization is evil’. Change is good, but change from affluence to penury is bad. Most of these youths have stories to tell about their survival and how they have been holding-on to life. We intend to preach HOPE to these youths by making use of attractive and youth-engaging methods.
Topical focus:
Country:
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Aco settlement, Lugbe
Describe the specific population with whom you will be working.
Having experienced horror in the hands of both insurgents(Boko Haram) and government's security agents most of which have often been accused of violating human rights. The programme will begin with the young natives of Lugbe who will be trained on video making and photography. They then will be further trained on the basics of writing and also how to write poems. The purpose for choosing youths is because they are important stakeholders in the society to achieving peace and also have the strength to cope with passing down acquired skills to their friends, families and the society at large. The project is expected to help youths appreciate other benefits of using the computer other than for watching movies. The output of the project will be totally welcomed by the youths.

What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
The good thing about this project is that it preaches hope while also making known to the world that after the darkest night is the dawn. The project is so fantastic in that it reveals stories of Lugbe youths daily survival in pictures, videos (Muiltimedia) and in poetry. Lessons from this project will transcend the veil of disharmony and the feeling that the ‘world doesn't care’ amongst the youths. This alone will send a strong message of hope to other people in conflict areas or refugee camps globally. The project output will be shared on social media, websites of collaborators.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established or plan to establish that will contribute to the success of the project.
A well structured plan as to how the project will be executed is already
finalized. We have identified basic facilities needed and also have
experts (writers, poets) ready on ground. We also have contacted a very
good computer technician. We have a good existing relationship with the people, elders, religious heads of our target population.
How many participants do you think will be trained in your project?
About 15 participants will be involved in the training. The participants most
of which are usually easy to identify due to their appearance will be
sourced from the general public and consultation with the stakeholders
such as Imams, pastors, and pressure groups in the targeted population.
An agreement would be reached that each member pledges to train others,
this in essence will have a multiplying effect on the population. Social
networking will be used to promote these stories.
Describe which technologies, tools, and media you will focus on when training participants.
We already have the necessary manpower in terms of a seasoned Photographer and image consultant. We have also a well known poet and writer. We do have adequate writing materials and resources.
Describe the facilities where you will hold the workshops.
We will be getting a 30 people capacity hall with about 5 laptops, we plan
to get more as soon as work begins. We have a glo modem for internet
connectivity.
What is your current relationship with the community with whom you plan to work? What makes you the most appropriate individual or organization to implement this project?
My relationship with the community is formal and cordial. People seldom
concern themselves with other people issues as they all seem to be in
constant haste to meet end needs. In all this youths invariably have a notion that the community seldom care about them and they also shouldn't bother themselves about communal efforts.
What specific challenges do you expect to face when planning and implementing your project?
The major concern will be the lack of adequate power. The country power generation is around 3800 mega watts. However back up plan to make use of an alternative power generating set is on ground.
How will you measure and evaluate the project’s impact, specifically: your primary participants, the wider regional community, or the global digital community?
Success will be measured by the quality of human improvements and material outputs (video, pictures and poems). Success will also be measured by the multiplying effects of the project in the community especially amongst youths. The success indicator will be such that would ensure proper appreciation and usage of the multimedia (photography, videos ) to tell stories, discuss issues and preach hope on social media.

Besides the microgrant funding, what other support can Rising Voices provide for your project to ensure its success?
Since participants would be documenting their lives in a multimedia format, we would really appreciate if poems, pictures and other creative outputs can be scripted and adapted into a movie.
