CYPPD NGO volunteers and staff will train 20 youths in media and performance. The performance aspect may include drama and/or dance and will be structured around a central narrative. The volunteers and staff will provide workshops and dance/drama lessons to introduce ideas such as storytelling and roles. The media-based focus of the project will be filmmaking: children will be involved in writing, set-design and costume, acting and shooting. The children will produce the films as independently as possible and will be given tools and technical skills training where necessary.

Describe the specific population with whom you will be working.
25 children and young people aged between 10 and 18 years old, many of whom are either homeless or from a very poor family. The majority of the children work and are unable to attend school and many of the girls have been sexually abused.
Objectives:
•To create a positive and safe environment.
•To empower and inspire a small group of enthusiastic children.
•To provide the space and time for children to generate their own creative ideas.
•To equip children with the skills and confidence to make their own films and/or produce their own performance.
•To create a sense of achievement in the children.
•To use local resources and develop links with existing media networks in Mongolia.
•To host an exhibition/event in the local community showing the children’s creative achievements.

Project aimed to take the children and young people on a new kind of filmmaking journey. The project aimed to see two films produced. The project would take place both in Ulaanbaatar and at CYPPD’s summer camp, located three hours north of the city by train. The project is to include a final film showing exibition in the capital city Ulaanbaatar where children, families and members of the community would be invited to see the work produced by the children and young people.

We will be working with national and international volunteers, member organizations of the National Network against Worst Forms of Childr Labour, local child protection authorities,
How many participants do you think will be trained in your project?
Directly 20 disadvantaged young people. All activities are participatory based, we would conduct needs analysis, focus group discussion, also divide the participants into different groups, they share their work load, and through all of active engagement they youth will gain team work, self management and problem solving skills. The project will culminate in a public exhibition of their work. The intended audience for the film project will be not only the friends and families of the participants but the wider community. The film will be used as an awareness raising strategy to others. The participants would also like to explore avenues and opportunities for distribution beyond the local community, e.g. submissions to film festivals.

What is your current relationship with the community with whom you plan to work? What makes you the most appropriate individual or organization to implement this project?
Today, every third child in Mongolia is poor. Many children work to support their families. Thousands of street children are the result of homelessness and family breakdown. Many years ago charities and donations were more of a material based which was vital at that time, however that was a short term goal, now long term goal is rather than a material help we need to educate and develop these vulnerable children. So that it ensures thier education, socialization and most importantly participatory based apporach is empowering the young generation for more.
What specific challenges do you expect to face when planning and implementing your project?
1. Broad age range of children (Younger children in particular might struggle with learning and engagement) – to overcome, plan more about different activities that are suitable for different age groups, i.e. a play rather than film (less tech reliant) Group children according to age for some activities and mix age range for others Consider limiting age group 12 +
2. Meeting the needs of the children (their emotional needs and practical needs, as they come from poor and often abusive homes) – to overcome, will carry out a needs assessment and baseline survey pre-project
How will you measure and evaluate the project’s impact, specifically: your primary participants, the wider regional community, or the global digital community?
All the staff at CYPPD meet every week to inform each other of the week’s activities and discuss what actions might need to be taken. Staff and participants discuss how the project is improving their situation and what changes could be made. At the end of each phase the children involved will be asked to provide feedback on the training so that any alterations that might need to be made can be done before the next phase begins.
