Lençóis
Describe the specific population with whom you will be working.
Lençóis is the main tourist centre of the Chapada, and had, until the 1990’s, diamond mining as the economic base. When diamonds started to run out this sparked a social and economic crisis that intensified with the permanent closure of the mining activity in 1996. Investment was redirected to large and medium-sized tourism businesses, with many offering ecotourism, but mostly do not include the history and culture of the people of the region. Only 40% of the population has a laptop or computer at home. Young people have access to the internet by social projects or by sharing laptops and internet connections. The project proposes involvement of teenagers and young people through a selection to participate a workshop and will receive classes of communication, digital culture and history.
