Namakkal District is in the western part of Tamilnadu,India have a population of 1.72 million. Namakkal is known for its trucking, rig, power loom, poultry,sago and starch,educational industries. On the other hand, Namakkal District also ranks tops with the higher prevalence and incidents of HIV/AIDS,incidents of child rights violations-incidents of various forms of exploitation and abuses, high incidents of child marriages & high magnitude of child work force.While there are stand alone programs to address these, all of them are to be roped and to provide effective referrals and networking

There are more child rights violations takes place in Namakkal District that includes presence of child labour systems, child marriages, exploitation of children in physical, mental & sexual forms, neglect of children. WORD has recently taken up a District Need Assessment on child protection Issues supported by the Government. There is an urgent need to rope in all the services to effectively provide care and protection, legal assistance for the child victims, enhance awareness programs, linking with various service delivery agencies. As all of them have access to internet, a common virtual floor is the need of the hour which WORD tries to initiate through the RV Microgrant program.

WORD has been working in the child rights promotion and address child rights violation issues in Namakkal District in Tamilnadu, India. WORD is also a member of the ‘District Advisory Board on Child Protection’ in Namakkal (http://wordorg.blogspot.in/2013/07/word-is-in-district-advisory-board-on.html). WORD has also recently carried out a comprehensive district need on child protection issues in Namakkal District (http://wordorg.blogspot.in/2013/06/district-need-assessment-on-child.html). We also run three special schools for the child labourers in Namakkal District. We have ample experience in the field, with trained staff, various key programs on child development which will contribute the success of this project too.
How many participants do you think will be trained in your project?
We are aiming to train 25 service agencies with 100 persons on key resource issues. By providing care and protection for the children in exploitation will sustain the project forever.
Describe which technologies, tools, and media you will focus on when training participants.
We will be training the participants over social media with presentations on child violation issues, network resources, key areas of concerns, government welfare programs, vulnerable factors, techniques to create awareness etc.
Describe the facilities where you will hold the workshops.
We have at present enough computer systems with broadband internet facilities.
What is your current relationship with the community with whom you plan to work? What makes you the most appropriate individual or organization to implement this project?
We serve as a key resource agency in the district in providing care and protection of children. Right from our inception since 1988, we have been implementing various wide range of programs for the overall development of the community. We have also established various community structures to support all our development initiatives.
What specific challenges do you expect to face when planning and implementing your project?
Time bound service delivery is a key issue which we will overcome with effective networking and linkages.
How will you measure and evaluate the project’s impact, specifically: your primary participants, the wider regional community, or the global digital community?
We will be measuring with the following indictors
- How many service partners are actively involved.
– How many children in exploitation are provided care and protection.
– How many people in the community make aware on child exploitation issues.
– How many new service providers identified and trained.
– How many referrals and linkages made to avail various support services.
– How many postings were done in the virtual floor.
– No of effective partnerships created.
