The ‘This is Santa Marta’ project consists in an audiovisual production workshop, to be held for the visual core of Ong Social Attitude, with ten young people in this poor community in Rio de Janeiro. As a practical exercise we will produce a web reality with the residents of the community. We use digital technology in capturing and editing images and beyond the display on a web channel, we will also views the program as the film club Ong community.
Topical focus:
Country:
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Rio de Janeiro
Describe the specific population with whom you will be working.
The community of Santa Marta is poor, with a young population who have no access to the medium of cultural production and digital media. They are young people who need projects that promote digital inclusion. This young people have immense creative potential and many stories to tell. Accordingly, I intend to use my experience to work in TV production and digital media to give voice to these young people to tell their stories and the history of their community.
Who else will be on your team to help implement the project?
Atitude School – https://www.facebook.com/groups/111861592306147/?fref=ts
Ong Atitude Social – https://www.facebook.com/pages/ONG-Atitude-Social/299819976823692
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
I want to tell the story of the community from the oral narratives of yours residents and the images captured by digital media. This is the real life of these people, their daily lives, the problems they face in everyday life of this poor community. All this will be transmitted from the digital medium more democratic today, the internet. The web TV channel that we want to create will so that after the citizens of this community continue producing content and telling their stories.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established or plan to establish that will contribute to the success of the project.
I work in television production for quite some time now and I was invited by the Ong Social Attitude, which operates in Santa Marta community for several years to develop a project with local young people. So, With the help of Rising Voices and using digital media, I can develop a plan of action about a workshop production, creat a web tv and record a reality show about the community.
How many participants do you think will be trained in your project?
In principle, I intend to involve about 10 young people in realizing this project. Young people are already circulating by the ONG Social Attitude and who have an interest in learning audiovisual techniques. I want to wrap them with creative and dynamic lessons on audiovisual production and inviting them to participate in the whole conception of the reality show, the search for the characters, the argument of each chapter of the program, techniques for recording and editing, etc..
Describe which technologies, tools, and media you will focus on when training participants.
As organizer of the project and activist media, I want to use for recording reality basically digital cameras, laptops and a good internet connection. These technologies are relatively cheap, so I believe are the most appropriate for use in the community. To view the program will be the tool used to youtube or vimeo, by creating a TV channel WEB. The disclosure of the project also will use social media to promote the channel community. In addition, we will have other medias of community as community radio to publicize the program.
Describe the facilities where you will hold the workshops.
The workshop will be realized at the ONG Social Attitude. There are two computers, internet and a small island of editing images.
What is your current relationship with the community with whom you plan to work? What makes you the most appropriate individual or organization to implement this project?
My relationship with the community began in 2012 when I was invited to guide the production of a short film by Ong relizado Social Attitude, which operates there in Santa Marta. Since that first contact, try to systematize the core of the audiovisual Ong and produce a workshop audiovisual production. With funding from Rising I see that this is an opportunity for us to accomplish this workshop and boost the creation of audiovisual core that aims to maintain long-term empowering young people to work in the audiovisual market.
What specific challenges do you expect to face when planning and implementing your project?
The community of Santa Marta was the first to be pacified by units of peacekeeping police, so I think I will not have many obstacles in relation to local security. However, I believe that the police who now administers the community may impose obstacles for us to speak of community problems that remain unsolved even with their presence. I also think I will face obstacles regarding the technology to produce and display the reality, because in poor communities the internet still does not work as it should, the service is poor quality.
How will you measure and evaluate the project’s impact, specifically: your primary participants, the wider regional community, or the global digital community?
The first impact assessment of the project will be with the workshop participants themselves, through the proper execution of the work of recording reality. A second evaluation will be with the community, through qualitative interviews on participation in this project will be reviewed and a third from the accounting metrics own research of social networks and Tvweb used channel, counting the hits usurious social networks for publicizing the project and by measuring the number of viewers of web TV.
If your project were to be selected as a Rising Voices grantee, what would be the general timeline of project activities in 2014?
I will start the workshop in august the 2014. They will be 15 days of daily lessons audiovisual production techniques. After this period has now begin recording the first episodes of the reality that would be displayed at the beginning of September to November 2014. The results of the project reviews would begin in December.
