In want to initiate project that intend to train disabled youth-students in the use of digital and media tools. The purpose is to create for them the access and usefulness in broadcasting and Media in general. In order to achieve this, we will teach them how to record and edit audio recordings. We will provide them with training and follow-up workshops in blogging and the use of social networks, so they will be able to share their productions with the outside environment.
Topical focus:
Country:
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
HUYE
Describe the specific population with whom you will be working.
We will work with disabled or handicap students of HVP GATAGARA schools. This a community of young people marginalized or underrepresented in the Rwandan society, where they have not had their voices heard because of the existing stigma towards them. Most of them come from poor and vulnerable families. These constitute obstacles that prevent them from getting access to digital media or any other media of communication.
Who else will be on your team to help implement the project?
This project will involve different players such as:
-Radio “IJWI RY'IBYIRINGIRO”( VOICE OF HOPE RADIO) Which has already a show in regards to these people. They will provide journalists to mentor the participants
-HVP GATAGARA School that hosts and accommodate these young people. It also works as the main voice for the Disabled/handicap people in the country.
-MIiss UWASE Alice, a graduate from this school will also facilitate in training and workshops.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
The participants in the project will focus on issues which affect them in daily life such as The life and health of disabled people, stigma and discrimination, self-confidence and effectiveness and hope for the brighter future. These will be addressed through drama, poems and songs that will be made by themselves .They will also have space for radio presentations. The productions in form of audios will be recorded and edited by the participants, and they will upload them in the digital online space in order to share them in social networks.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established or plan to establish that will contribute to the success of the project.
I, myself have established connection with them, when i worked in the school as an internee teacher. i have and feel the passion/will to help these guys in one way or another as per may abilities.
There is also the connection that was established by Radio “Ijwi ry'ibyiringiro” that i work with as an amateur Journalist. The radio already broadcasted shows in their intention, in the purpose of help the school raise funds.
With all those partnerships or connections, the project will now help the students themselves have a space to express themselves and raise their voices.
How many participants do you think will be trained in your project?
we will work with 12 students and their 3 teachers to make 15 participants in the project.
We will consider 2 students in each class year( as there is a 6 year high school system) and Teachers also will be recommended by the school management. Gender balance will be considered. The school management will always help in selection.
Describe which technologies, tools, and media you will focus on when training participants.
-Audio podcasts: this is the accurate for the project. it will enable the participants to fit in the project vision and orientation.
-Social networking also will be useful for the success of the project. I t will easy the access to information but also will allow the quick interaction with the outside environment.
Describe the facilities where you will hold the workshops.
We will carry out the project in the school, so for the facilities we will use the school infrastructures..we will donate 3 computer to the school and provide internet connectivity on the speed of 3.75 G.
What is your current relationship with the community with whom you plan to work? What makes you the most appropriate individual or organization to implement this project?
I worked in the school as an internee teacher. That is the most promising relationship. So what makes me the most appropriate is that among any other individuals or organization in touch with them, none have engaged in the direct capacity building activities to this youth. i have and feel the passion/will to help and build these guys in one way or another as per may abilities.
What specific challenges do you expect to face when planning and implementing your project?
The challenges are to make the community understand or consider the effortful work done by these particular people.. If we lack support from public authority, that will be a challenge too. The lack of tools appropriate to disables people will be another challenge.. So we intend to overcome these challenges to our project by demonstrating, presenting and advertising the productions of the participants.. We sensitize the relatives, and other people in connection or in touch with these people, including public institutions to consider the project.. We will have public demonstrations for each of the obtained achievements. We will create our own media and networks.
How will you measure and evaluate the project’s impact, specifically: your primary participants, the wider regional community, or the global digital community?
The way to measure the success of our project will be to analyze the results obtained by each of our participants. we will also consider the audience from the public.
If your project were to be selected as a Rising Voices grantee, what would be the general timeline of project activities in 2014?

I appreciate this idea because it will helpful to the handicapped students.
Thank you.
I really love your idea! However, why have you chosen an audio platform for this people (who are now being referred to as special need(s) people)? I have worked with different special needs people, especially children, whose challenges I’ve recorded as a documentary film. (Kindly check my blog: immanuel3a.wordpress.com) I think these people can better report themselves thru’ visuals, or multimedia outputs. This is because visuals and multimedia outputs (combination of visuals and sounds, etc.) can easily draw attention to experiences of these people. If you, however, strongly believe in the audio output, you may still stick to it. I wish you good luck. Cheers!
