Uganda: Citizen Journalism Training for Deaf Youth

Sawa World will train 10 youth with hearing impairment in videography and community leadership with our popular training called Citizen Journalism and Community Entrepreneurship. The youth from the largest slums in Kampala, Bwaise, Kamwokya and Rubaga, will learn how to use photography and videography to document successful, locally-created and practical solutions to self-employment and improved livelihoods.

Palestine: VACA Girl's Drama Theater Project

We are going to organize Palestinian Women Dance and Drama performance group and show its activities and play through social media. Women in Palestine suffer from a lot of difficulties including not only political problem but also social problem. Dancing and acting help women to reduce their pressure through expressing their emotion and feeling. Themes of their drama and dance will be related to women and we are going to exhibit its performance to women in our community. We expect they will become one of the role models of Palestine women in our community.

Zair, Zabar, Pesh is based on developing understanding and promoting tolerance between individuals, groups & communities of various faiths, cultures & race. At present we have one audio-visual project based on Stereotypes, which we shot in Dubai last year and is now in post-production. This will be put out in the form of webisodes and run alongside an online advocacy campaign. The latter is going to be a series of curated programs /workshops/exhibitions under the title of “SouthAsian Sandooq”, which will seek to not only celebrate our common heritage but also address issues & promote dialogue.

Uganda has the highest rate of youth in the world. 77% are between the ages of 15 and 24 years. However, 83% are unemployed due to the lack of vocational skills and youth with disability face the toughest challenges. We will train 10 youth with hearing impairment in videography and community leadership with our popular training called Citizen Journalism and Community Entrepreneurship. They will learn how to use photography and videography to document successful and practical solutions to self-employment and share them with other disabled youth for inspiration and instant replication.

The aim of this project is to involve large number LGBT persons from Montenegro in online activism trough production of personal digital stories that will be published online on www.montenegro-gay.me portal that will be rebuilt within the next one week after the hacking attack and interactive map of our country containing marked different location on which important things happens in lives of LGBT persons and short stories related to them. This will increase visibility of LGBT persons but also increase problems that we are facing with in everyday life.

USA: Telling Maya Migrant Stories

We will equip and train Guatemalan Maya migrants in New Bedford to use digital video and audio to record their own and others’ memories about the Guatemalan genocide and postwar violence, and also experiences of migration to the U.S., including exploitative and unsafe working conditions and racially-motivated violence in New Bedford,. Selected stories will be edited and uploaded onto a Youtube channel and shared on our website. This project will allow migrants to combat stereotypes and marginalization, and is part of our campaign to secure dignity and justice at work and in the community.
