Colombia: My Life in Focus Tumaco

My Life in Focus Tumaco is a citizen media education program for marginalized Afro-Colombian youth (14-21) affected by violence, poverty and armed conflict. Our mission is to support the youth to have their own, authentic voices be heard, to provide them with an alternative to joining one of the illegal armed groups and to improve their prospect of gaining employment in the media sector. To achieve this we will provide participants with a training in human rights, followed by professional-grade training in aspects of digital media, such as reporting, blogging, photography, and filmmaking.

Brazil: Cidadão Conectado – Youth Voices Challenge

Cidadão conectado is one of the projects of Politiquê, a group that aims to make politics interesting and accessible to everybody. We want to engage a new generation of citizens on the political debate, offering unbiased and nonpartisan information and training. To excite teenage students to rethink politics, we want to propose a citizen challenge: they will have to identify, comprehend and solve a problem within their own community. We want to show them the online tools for public participation and train them to use the internet as a new debate arena, where they can tell their own stories.

Kenya: Amplify Dandora

A Participatory Video research and education rights project in the Dandora Slum, Nairobi, Kenya. Over five-days, the Eves Day School team, facilitated by mutiny arts and supported by InsightShare, will teach camera skills and story development to the young residents of Dandora. Together, they will produce a short film that promotes understanding in young people about their education rights, as underpinned by the UN Declaration of Human Rights. The film will explore what would be needed to facilitate access to education, and look at stories of hardship and empowerment within Dandora.

Nigeria: Where Is Home?

Islamic Insurgents (Boko Haram) have terrorised thousands of Nigerians in the North. Terrorism in the Northern Nigeria has led to displacement of hundreds of thousands of Nigerians, most of whom are now refugees in other parts of Nigeria. However, the condition of these Nigerians as well as refugees has been overlooked. This project seeks to look into the plight of these Nigerians who're now refugees in their own country. Some select refugees in Ibadan, Western Nigeria, will be trained with some multimedia tools (e.g. phones, sound recorders, etc) to get international attention to their plight

Philippines: Urban Poor Participatory Video Production

The project is a participatory video workshop and production to enable the urban poor to tell their own stories and make their own videos. These communities of the urban poor participating in this project are those victimized by demolition, displacement and disaster in the last three years, making more severe the more permanent conditions of joblessness and hunger they suffer. The project aims to (1) teach the urban poor to tell their own stories and make their own videos and (2) publish and share the video and materials produced and lessons derived.

Slovakia: We are Here, Young Roma Citizens!

The project aims to encourage the young people to inform the public society on their own about actual democratic processes that are important to their own communities by using online media. After before being provided training on production of videos, the youth will now learn in the training how and where to publish these topics online in form of videoblogs. Youth online involvement should also increase their peers‘ interest in local democratic processes.

Lithuania: Vilnius Roma Tell Their Own Story

Roma settlement of Kirtimai is regularly portrayed in the media as a “drug nest”, and the inhabitants of the settlement are accused of being unable to be a part of civilized society. Having much negative experience with national and local press, the Roma of Kirtimai are now being very closed from the rest of the society, which makes inclusion even more problematic. Using the participatory video methods five young members of this Roma community will their own story of life in this settlement and share their daily experiences, challenges and dreams.

Cyprus: In the Footsteps of a Dying Dialect

This project is a participatory audio and visual documentary about the dying dialect of Kormakitis village in Cyprus. We hope to show the need for a solution to the Cyprus Problem so that people can return to their village, so get to know and speak there dialect. We will show the historical routs of this dialect, the need for teaching it to the youth and all the interested people so it will not die after a few generations. We will find older people to speak about their language, show the different perspectives of the youth, and highlight what has been done until now to keep this dialect alive.

Indonesia: The Fall of Our Local Food Sovereignty

Papuans traditionally consume sago, bananas, and a variety of tuber, all part of their staple food. However, the traditional staple food is threatened by homogenization of food programs or the rice program. People have changed from a variety of food producers to become consumers of rice. As a result, food security is threatened. An effective strategy would be to visualize the erosion of the local food systems in the form of short films. They will also be trained to produce films themselves and to present the results to local officials. The films will also be uploaded in various social media.

Ukraine: Summer Film School

Purport of this project is to teach participants create qualitative and original video content (especially to create personal channels on videohostings ) . In this participants of the project will take all steps of creating videos (from creation ideas to filming and editing , also promoting their personal channel). Participants will be divided into groups. Each group will be run by a coach. Under their guidance on the spot will be created videos , short films or internet show . Our target is to teach Ukrainian youth to do qualitative and original video content .
