Striking photos and videos will be used in online campaigns and exhibits in the communities and supportive institutions. What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Metro Manila
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
UP represents majority of the population in urban centers like Metro Manila. Most of the urban poor are workers or unemployed doing odd jobs to make a living. Making UP economically marginalized and part of the poorest of the poor. This redound to UP's very limited access and exposure to online and media outfits. UP are also threatened by inhumane living condition. The project aims to empower the UP communities through their own eyes and photos.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Eye catching photos and vivid short videos in the 3 UP communities that capture lives of local residents. It will tell the story how UP cope with poor living condition and their effort to educate, organize and mobilize their own rank to assert their human rights for decent living in urban centers. Media output will portray UP organizations’ experiences, hardships, losses and victories of their campaigns.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
Kalikasan PNE for more than three years is helping UP communities in different areas in Metro Manila to organize themselves and address the issue of environmental degradation in urban areas as well as social issues like displacement and demolitions. People's organizations that have networked with Kalikasan PNE in UP communities in Quezon City, Makati City and Manila City will be the main partners and stakeholders of the project.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
A total of sixty (60) participants from 3 UP communities will be trained. An average of twenty (20) individuals per urban poor community is expected to participate in the training that will be conducted. The participants are either members of the existing local organizations or individuals who signified their intention to be part of the training. Each participant will be screened and commit to produce photos or videos after the training.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Rising Voices can offer its online outfits and network organizations to show or endorse the project output and the campaigns of the trained participants and partner organizations. Also if there are citizen media practitioners that you networked with in the Philippines and willing to volunteer in the implementation project it would be a great help.
