Finalist – Mexico: Oral and Living Traditions in San Andrés

Train young purepechan people in the use of digital cameras, audio recorders or cell phones to share via social networks and blogs: their oral literature, everyday activities, traditional parties and local landscapes. With training workshops, this project looks to promote in them, the vision of a world that tends to global communication. In one hand, the workshops will cover technical skill development; in the other hand, they’ll talk about human development, so the maintenance of identity traits and skills development is guaranteed.

Finalist – Shooting Bolivia from Wikimedia Commons

Multimedia material of Bolivia within Wikimedia Commons are few. There are no images, audios or videos of historical places or towns and cities. In Bolivia, there are several groups of people interested in multimedia who share their work through social media, but these photos are not shared under a free license. The most frequent reason is that they do not know how to use these type of licenses. The idea is to contact as many of these groups throughout Bolivia and conduct training workshops and awareness to share some of their materials in Wikimedia Commons.

Finalist – Pakistan: IDPs Youth Media Project

This project will enable IDPs youth age 16-22 living in Jalozai IDPs Camp and host communities, to tell stories about themselves and their communities. By learning the documentary approach in photography, IDPs youth will create media products about their lives. Eligible IDPs youth will be identified and registered. 40 youth will be trained, while each participant will produce a piece of work; In addition, the participants will also be given a crash course on citizen journalism, allowing them to disseminate their best works through the Internet in the future.

Finalist – Uganda: Right To Speak Ik

The Right to Speak Ik will mobilize, build capacity and create awareness for a handful of remaining Ik speakers in Karamoja sub region (one of the least developed and under-reported areas in the World) to use Digital technologies particularly mobile phones, digital cameras and micro blogs to not only document and preserve important ancestral knowledge and cultural wealth found in the endangered Ik language but also encourage the next generation of speakers. Invisible even in their own country, this project will bring the lives of ordinary Ik, to the global digital community.

Finalist – Romania: Transylvanian Online Cook Book

For the multicultural and multiethnic people from Transylvania is an urgent need to preserve their language, roots and traditional values, their way of living because we are constantly threatened by the globalization and consumerism. We are responsible for our children to remember culinary traditions, to keep them and pass them along. We will create an attractive online platform where anyone can post their traditional recipes, along with pictures or special stories they have about it and we ourselves will record, photo, translate and post some stories of our own in order to encourage people.

Peru: Expressions of Indigenous Contemporary Art Network

Guatemala: Pueblo CLIC

Pueblo CLIC is a nonprofit website, which was created with the purpose of projecting the art, culture and natural beauty of San Lucas Toliman, located around Lake Atitlan. The main idea is to boost intercultural tourism and thus, contribute to the local economy of its residents and therefore, improve lives.

Bolivia: Digitizing the Besiro Language

The Besiro language is endangered and that is why we want to digitize the language through audio, photography, video to create records, data and supporting material for teaching in the education system. We will work in a community with 15 families, of which, 5 of them speak the language but who are elderly. We expect to be in social networks so that young people can use the Besiro language.

Nicaragua: My Voice, Your Voice, Our Voice in the Community

The project will work with young people from the community so that they can exchange experiences about their lives (organizations, health, education, community projects), so that they can become agents of change. We hope to create a Communications Resource Center where they will be provided with the tools that allow them to interact with other young people and develop communication skills and abilities.

Colombia: There is Culture

To contribute to the exercise of communication rights and the culture of Afro-Cartagenian women and men and their social organizations, which are located in popular urban sectors in Cartagena (Colombia). By working with a website under the name “There is culture”, where we will mainly collect and disseminate their products, knowledge, culture, and communications.
