The aim is to create a network of digital video producers that develop stories of the environment and, preferably incorporating elements of ancient Mayan culture. The intention is to train 15 young people in the use of these technologies and build a visual memory of our environment, use, protection and services. The results will be micro-video stories that are disseminated through web supported by our networks and alliances.

What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Campeche
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
Youth between 16-25 years old concerned about the environment, either because of its degradation, protection, or use. Although this group is, according to our statistics (FB) – the one that uses the internet, very few of them produce content for the web. In other words, they are just content consumers. Moreover, we consider that a major part of our conservation work and educational methods is to focus particularly on young women.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
The workshop’s result will be up to 12 stories. The theme is the environment. Campeche, Mexico, has 42% of its territory under some environmental protection, an area larger than Costa Rica, but given the rate of deforestation and lack of public awareness, this heritage is rapidly disappearing. The workshop will include the recovery of the Mayan cosmogony, where nature was seen as a house in which one had to ask permission to enter and be in it.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
Our organization currently has over 9000 followers on social networks (5% of Campeche city’s population), in addition we have spaces on TV, print media to broadcast announcements and news. This is an important support that allows us to ensure the continuity of the project and dissemination of digital video production. But we also have contact and relationship with Government institutions, Universities and Non Governamental Organizations.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
The workshop will be intensive and practical, therefore we have considered training 12 people: 8 or 9 women and 3 or 4 men. This female over-representation is due to the lack of opportunities that women have in our country. A stimulus grant is considered for those participants who attend all sessions. The final screening result will be coordinated with the cultural authorities to achieve a greater mass media impact.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Spread the micro-stories to reach audiences from around the world. Post production, it would be valuable to have a good English subtitling and/ or other languages. If possible, to guide us on how to obtain sponsorship for editing software. And last one it would be very exciting for the young participants to have an interview via web with a member of Rising Voices in order to exchange views and to underline the importance of global communication.
