The project seeks to strengthen the abilities of a group of adolescents and youth who are currently child domestic workers (CDW) or former CDW on the development and dissemination of stories through a radio program and a blog. Adolescents and youth will address issues related to CDW in order to create awarness among the Cajamarca comunity. The issues addressed through the radio and blog will serve to inform, follow up, and intervene.
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
We will develop stories of girls working as CDW that address: Identity with the comunity of origin, family ties, labor and education conditions, wellbeing, service access, etc.
Girls will have a space to share their interests, worries and expectations. Troughout the stories, the local community will also have an opportunity to understand better the reality and lives of CDW.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
For advocacy: Municipal Commitee for Children and Adolescents Rights, which creates awarness on CDW in the region; and radio Station “Nueva Visión”, whose main management supports the broadcast of our radio program.
For direct care to CDW: Municipal Center for Youth Development, who provides a facility to work with CDW; and Municipal Defense Center for Women and Children, wich supports solving problems related to identity and health care access.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
We will train 17 adolescents and youth in CDW: a) 7 former CDW part of the staff who will complement their training, reinforce their commitment and enhance their participation in the project; b) 10 current CDW, already contacted for another project, who will be motivated to actively contribute to group a).
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Rising Voices counts with many successful projects from which we can learn specially in terms of stories editing, blog writing and audio editing. In addition, it will be very interesting to learn about resources to develop an online radio program in which we can use recordings used in our current local radio program.
