We suggest a mapping of the landscape of water from different views of the people of provinces of Argentina. Starting the project from two nodes: Rosario (province of Santa Fe) and Resistencia (province of Chaco.) The georeferencing process of news /stories will be made with Crowdmap (interactive map tool) This may allow the participation of organizations and citizens in a highly approachable and friendly way.

Country:
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Rosario
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
We will work with groups that are related to rural schools, neighborhood associations, indigenous communities, community radio stations and women groups. Some of these communities are invisible and are underrepresented online or represented indirectly. The news reported about their problems (and specifically water) are usually used for other purposes and sectors.
The level of familiarity with the Internet is null or medium according to the group, age or sex.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
The kind of content to be created is variable: the purpose is not only about the “claim” of water cut, but rather the story behind that fact, customs, habits of each group or place. Thus,we are able to create a water landscape through issues as: health, inadequate access to water, the water shortage or lack it, contamination , different uses and different ways to get drinking water, cleaning or food security topics, the impact of nature, emergencies and the “cosmovision” of the common good. The aim is to report through written material, images, video or voice recordings. Sending reports via mail, mobile phone, or direct uploading from the map as appropriate and tracking Twitter hashtags.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
The project has the collaboration of the following groups:Rurals schools (Santa Fe Chaco), Cátedra Libre del Agua (UNR) students and researchers support , others CrisisCamps members , Neighborhood associations, local indigenous communities, Networks of communities radios and we expect to have additional support of volunteers of the entire community.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
20-30 as minimum (directly). These numbers represent an approximation and could increase. Each organization can search referents (leaders) to be trained and they may divulge the project and the tools learned to their peers. The participation will sustain with regular monitoring meetings
Describe which technologies, tools, and media you will focus on when training participants.
The core technology/tool will be provided by the digital map. Therefore, the training will be important in the use of that platform. The training participants should be offline or online. This consist of writing a chronicle, doing an interview, taking a photo or voice recordings. We have expertise in mapping, social media, online course creation and photography.
Describe the facilities where you will hold the workshops.
We have not a specific or formal physical space. The social groups do not have own space except some rural schools. We could to use cyber/telecentros to the internet access.
What is your current relationship with the community with whom you plan to work? What makes you the most appropriate individual or organization to implement this project?
We are a network of volunteers working on humanitarian issues and ICT. Our goal is to give visibility and voice to communities and groups affected . An example of the situation of them : over 70 % of the indigenous communities have no access to drinking water (Chaco) and several problems related with arsenic(Santa Fe). We would like to create a liason with others NGO´s and groups in urban and peri-urban areas. We are compromised already with some groups and they are familiar with our work.
What specific challenges do you expect to face when planning and implementing your project?
The major challenge to face is to give visibility those problems that bring internal turmoil regarding the groups.
How will you measure and evaluate the project’s impact, specifically: your primary participants, the wider regional community, or the global digital community?
The major impact would be reach the maximum participation of “citizen journalists” concerning the issue. To measure the success of the project, the engagement and the identification with the project could be a good indicator. To achieve the integration of new “nodes”could be a big goal. Also, the internalization of the tools and skills proposed in the groups is an important job.
If your project were to be selected as a Rising Voices grantee, what would be the general timeline of project activities in 2013?
