Masculinity Institute interactive website is an internet based platform targeting to recruit and mobilize men as advocates for gender equality. It will be designed to provide information on how men can establish mutually satisfying relationship free of domestic violence with women. The facility will offer psychosocial support to men perpetrators of domestic violence, men’s health including sexual and reproductive health to end domestic violence.

The Kenya Demographic and Health Survey of 2010 indicated that men are the main perpetrators of domestic violence. However there are few initiatives that have worked to mobilise men to become advocates of violence free relationships. Social acceptance of domestic violence makes violence against women acceptable making it hard to eliminate if the society is not transformed. The website wants to challenge the status quo through the internet.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Currently there are no known websites that is designed to work with men to end domestic violence locally. The existing websites are general designed from the west hence don’t have the Kenyan perspectives to domestic violence issues. The website will work with other international organisations working with men to tailor the information on domestic violence and health into local context. This will make it easier for men to get support.

Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
MAIN is a new organisation that was registered in 2012 and is in the process of establishing systems and institutional infrastructure to reach men to end violence against women. The organisation is focusing on domestic violence, sexual and reproductive health and establishment of a community of male gender advocates in different parts of the country. The website is one of the major medium that we will use to reach our constituents and partners
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
The interactive website is relevant and is needed to support the existing initiatives that seek to work end domestic violence. In Kenya, the constitution gives citizens the right to live life free of violence. The existing women’s rights organizations will also be stakeholders in the project and will be referring male clients to the organization and site for help. Men who will get the help from the site will also be referees who will shared
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
The Micro grant funding the organization has a resource mobilization strategy that will sustain the activities of the organisation in future. Currently the efforts are underway to popularize the website as we develop structures at local level to respond to the real needs of the local community.
