Train 300 Source of the Nile bloggers in 25 partnering schools and 05 community libraries with computer labs how to create group blogs to share their voices widely. Work with the 10 indigenous Lusoga speakers in each school/library to use blogs and Twitter to connect with others as a way to preserve and promote Lusoga language online and cultural tourism of Busoga's Nile valley. Our target is to generate one local story a day from each trainee.

What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Jinja-Bugembe
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
Although the Source of the Nile and gorgeous tourist sites along the Nile are found in Busoga, the local schools and community libraries have not prepared the locals to share this great spectacle with the rest of the world. The story is mostly told in Luganda and English leaving much of it untold because of language impediments. Working with 300 Source of the Nilers will enable the project to gather at least 1000 local stories in Lusoga.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
The stories will be about the life and peoples of Busoga, in particular their personal stories related to their proximity to the River Nile. The stories will include traditional songs, poems, riddles, proverbs, names, deities, historical facts, physical features, architecture, daily activities, events and pictures of the people living in Busoga's Nile valley. Each participant will file daily news in either picture, video clip or narrative form.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
I will use my links with Uganda Community Libraries Association and Lusoga Language Academic Board, Association of Local Language Educationalist, Researchers, and Translators, as well as, BusogaExpo 2012 to document the stories to be included in Busoga Tour Guide information packages. With over 100 tourism potential sites including the Source of the Nile UNESCO world Heritage site identified, local communities are expected to fully participate.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
Initially, 300 participants, teams of 10 at each partner school/community library will be trained in practical skills in photography, word processing, blogging, website maintenance and information moderation. Each team will provide training of any other users in their local community. Diligent bloggers and trainers shall win medals while Users win Certificates of Recognition. The best blogger from each site shall win a Source of the Nile trophy.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
We need Rising Voices to connect us to others interested in the source of the River Nile, its cultural and eco-tourism, Lusoga and its endangered dialects. In particular, we would like to connect with sites of children who would like to learn Lusoga, to promote Busoga and preserve Busoga's Nile valley. We shall also need 10 low powering i pods and mobile internet connection to establish 10 mobile local community project points.
