What is your current relationship with the community with whom you plan to work? What makes you the most appropriate individual or organization to implement this project?
Orissa is the second poorest state in India. Nearly 22 % of the population of the state is tribals, whose position is worst in the entire country. In certain development indicators, the proposed education programme for the tribal children even lags behind Sub-Saharan Africa. Ecological degradation, erratic rainfall and a high risk of drought in the area have resulted in Food insecurity, increasing out migration and periodic deaths from starvation. A small land base, low agricultural productivity and low income have led to rising in indebtedness, trapping tribals in to a vicious circle of exploitation. Land alienation has deprived them of their land, forest legislation has turned them in to encroachers on land have always used: and they also have disproportionately affected by displacement
