The participants are a group of 12 women from each district of Albania that have been training on how to use ICT for social inclusion and gender issues advancement.Currently in Albania, women make up approximately the half of the population, but gender-based discrimination precludes women for equal access and to face serious economic, social and cultural challenges. The objective is to record and edit an interview video regarding gender equality with the subject “More women in Politics Because…” through the citizen voice and finally, produce a spot that aims to advocate for equal voice for 2015 Local Election. The videos interview and the spot will be disseminating through social media channels and the organization platform (www.platformagjinore.al)
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established or plan to establish that will contribute to the success of the project.
Women’s Network Equality in Decision Making is a non-governmental with the first Virtual Platform of Women in Decision Making (www.platformagjnore.al) that provide full statistical data on women in decision making, strategies and actions plans. The Network has developed many projects focusing on raising awareness and enhancing women capacities with a special emphasis on ICT. In the implementation of this project, the Network will collaborate with the Union of Journalist for Justice (www.investigim.al) who has a long experience training young journalist on media and video production.
How many participants do you think will be trained in your project?
The project aims to training at least twelve women from the twelve district of Albania (one woman per district). Women will be identified by the regional and local coordinators of the Network located all over Albania and selected depending of their knowledge and skills on how to use ICT for social inclusion and gender issues advancement. In addition, the women will be recruited depending of their commitment in their community. To ensure the participant sustainability after the training, the local coordinators together with the partner organization will mentor the women during the recording and edition of the video interview.
Describe which technologies, tools, and media you will focus on when training participants.
The traditional media in Albania is not only limiting the visibility of women but also portraying women roles. Skills on video reporting through ICT and social media are an excellent tool to increase women visibility and to influence citizen opinion regarding women role. Women will be introduced to digital video but more important to mobile video. In addition, women will learn how to use social media as a tool to disseminate their video. The Union of Journalist for Justice will contribute with their experiences, skills and technology during the training. They will facilitate the materials (digital camera and other resources) and the expert for the training.
Describe the facilities where you will hold the workshops.
The learning process will be divided in two sections. The first section the women will be introduced to the mechanics on video advocacy: about how to use a video camera, how to record and prepare footage for a TV station and to edit them. It is important to mention that the training will not only be concentrated on digital camera but also mobile camera. The objective is to give the opportunities to the women to continue recording stories and empowering the citizen voices in their community. During the second section, women will learn how to prepare an interview with a video camera and how to use social media as a tool to disseminate their video: Twitter, Youtube, Facebook, Flick, blogs and other digital channel.
What is your current relationship with the community with whom you plan to work? What makes you the most appropriate individual or organization to implement this project?
Women’s Network Equality in Decision Making is a non-governmental organization founded in 2008 with the largest number of active women from all political parties, civil society and media with operationally in the 12 district of Albania. The Network is the first organization in Albania using ICT to promote equal participation/representation of women in politics and decision making. In addition, Network has organized the “Marathon for Politics” with a gigantic book that traveled in 12 regions where citizens wrote their opinions about women in politic. At present, the Network is developing a project on political branding communication through ICT for 2015 Local Elections as tool to enhance women visibility in politics and ensure a major control and determination of their image with the voters.
What specific challenges do you expect to face when planning and implementing your project?
One possible challenge is that women trained will need to conduct 15 interviews in their local district targeting equally women and men. Even though that the twelve women will be selected for their knowledge and use of ICT and role in their communities, it exists the possibility that their community will not be attracted to participate in the project or refuse to assign their IP right. We will face this challenge but informing the public before on the objective and implementation of the project.
How will you measure and evaluate the project’s impact, specifically: your primary participants, the wider regional community, or the global digital community?
- 12 women from 12 district of Albania (one from each district) are trained in video advocacy and social media use for empowerment.
– 12 women are prepared to conduct a video interview, interview, recording and storing footage and edition and distribution through social media.
– 180 interviews is conducted in the 12 district of Albania (15 interview per district) targeting equally men and women
