Niger: Mapping for Niger

  March 2, 2013

The project will create a Volunteer Technical Community (VTC) by training and mobilizing Nigerien students in ‘collaborative open source humanitarian mapping’ to increase inclusive information sharing in crisis preparedness, international solidarity and citizen agency through targeted digital capacity building and outreach. The VTC will then engage key humanitarian actors in Niger to contribute to OpenStreetMap, a free online mapping tool.

Nicaragua: Virtual Library on Hate Crimes, Human Rights, and Homophobia LGBT

Nigeria: Empowering Slum Communities with Media Communication Skills

Project intends to build the capacity of leaders of select slum communities in Lagos with basic media communication skills which they can use to share their plights & generate public support for development intervention in critical areas of social provisioning or aid improved living and environmental condition. the capacity building will include training on using phone for taking pictures, twitting, Facebook, and relating with media.

Nigeria: Talking Social Recovery

it is a project that hopes to speak out against drug and substance abuse among young people in our community. ear marking the disadvantages and negative effects of substances and illegal drugs. the project proposes the use of social media to learn and discuss and support addicts to a smart recovery through online forums and peer discussions.

Niger: Harobanda – Je suis fier de toi!

The project will reinforce a local grassroots organization that provides children living in Harobanda, Niamey’s poorest neighborhood, with afterschool classes and sports. The project will couple these existing initiatives with a targeted training program on digital and social media, providing invaluable skills and giving them a voice, while sharing their life with all its dignity and everyday challenges.

India: South Asian Comics Activists for Gender Justice

Sixteen Grassroots Activists from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal will be trained as Grassroots Comics Trainers to further engage many more female activists/ students in their respective countries to democratise the women voices through the medium of grassroots comics wall posters and campaigns. Comics have the power of unleashing the potential of self-expression and community action. In past several years World Comics Ihas experienced it.

Zambia: Community-Based ICT Stewardship Leverage on Underutilized Species

Due to harsh climatic conditions in Siavonga District, the project is intended to enhance resilient enterprise development by using Information Communication Technologies (ICT) through community-based stewardship on neglected and underutilized animal and plant species. The ICT-based promotion of access to, adaptation and effective use of tools and resources will apply bottom-up decision-making process as it will integrate relevant stakeholders.

Uganda: Human Rights Web – Breaking the Silence

The project proposes an innovative training of human rights defenders in Uganda on standard citizen media techniques through citizen media training workshops, individual instructions, creation of networks, and constructive mentoring follow-up. The project’s ultimate goal is to create a vibrant network of defenders (Defenders Web) who use citizen media to share their local stories globally on a well synchronized online space to scale impact.
