This project expects to develop activities related to citizen media training, especially focused to young people, as a way of prevention of social exclusion and, consequently, eradication of contemporary slave labor, unhappily, a very common crime in our region. We want to carry out a workshop for 15 teenagers that will learn about digital tools such as blog and micro-video for social denounce. Products that will be divulged trough Internet.

Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
Since 1998, ARCA-FM (Communitarian Radio Association of Açailândia) has been developed this kind of actions regarding teenagers, socially vulnerable and in risk of being attracted to slavery as a consequence of their familiar economical situation. So, for this project, we want to work with 15 teenagers (from 14 to 18 years old), which belong to families, victims of contemporary slavery in local farms or vegetal charcoal factories.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
After training the teenagers, they’ll create digital products for denouncing the social reality of Açailândia, including contemporary slavery, environmental devastation, poverty and other human rights violations; as well as we want to valorize our natural richness, traditions and culture. We want to create a blog where we’ll post micro-videos with old slavery victims’ testimonies, articles of opinion and photographs of our daily life.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
We're mainly helped by the CDVDH/CB, local NGO which fights against Human Rights Violations; we receive technical advice from Repórter Brasil, a national organization of journalism. We have developed projects financed by organisms such as Culture Ministry, Child Rights Municipal Council and others. Maintaining our activities through these projects and also with donors’ contributions, local shops which pay for radio publicity spaces, among others.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
We expect to train at least 15 teenagers, resident in Ildemar neighborhood, one of the most problematic in Açailândia and where more victims of slavery live. We have already identified teenagers interested into this project. Since 1999 we work with young people and their families, having a great demand from young people interested in our actions and being relatively easy to keep their interest and multiply our actions through the community.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Voluntary people mainly form our association and we're always seeking for more knowledge, especially for writing proposals and carrying effective actions that involve the whole community. Rising Voices website, where lots of experiences and good ideas appear, have been an inspiration for us. So, not being financial support, we still need technical advice, training opportunities for our staff and participate in events for interchanging experiences
