This project aims at creating an interactive map that pinpoints the too widely scattered community development projects in Cuba. It will contain basic information of each one and the description of its activities through short videos and photo galleries made by journalism students of the University of Havana as part of their training to cover local stories.
What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Content to be developed on the site will be based on an interactive map that will contain an article with a summary of key project data: name, coordinator, direction, mission, vision and core activities. Also we will include a creative video or photo gallery, made jointly by students and citizens involved in the projects. It will also be disseminated in social networks such as Twitter, Facebook and Youtube.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
This project has been approved by the Departament of Journalism at the University of Havana. We have also been working with the Exchange and Reference Center for Community Inintiatives (CIERIC by its Spanish acronym) in the identification of community projects in three provinces of Cuba: La Habana, Artemisa and Pinar del Río which do not have web presence.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
We will prepare 60 journalism students through their curriculum. This includes developing skills on image processing on the web, creating videos and podcasts. They will carry out this work as evaluation of Hypermedia Journalism class. Participants in community projects will be assessed by the students in order to create end communication products.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Rising Voices could help us making the payment for hosting and domain for our site, which we cannot do from Cuba. In addition, we would appreciate your help in training the group of professors who actually teach this subject at the University of Havana. Also the diffusion of our project in your website would be greatly appreciated .

This is definitely a project worth doing. It will help to increase Cuba’s presence on the web and offer a glimpse into community development efforts that would otherwise remain unknown to people outside of Cuba. ¡Mucho éxito!
Awesome idea… I hope you get luck
a project to fall in love…really. great work!!!!
I am one of the students who takes part in the project Barrio Cuba. To create a communicative project, not from the perception but from the participation it re-forms the whole process. When one goes to the neighborhoods, and find a community house devoted to the biggest adult, where your grandmother receives classes of history of the community, or Fefa, a 90-year-old lady!!!! where she learns to do dolls and other stuffs you understand the value of this type of projects: they return this people the sense of their lives , make them feel useful. who does not want to be a part of a project that feeds the soul of the people? Barrio Cuba is an experience that comes … to remain. Thanks for your support.
Saludos
This project will not only help raise the profile of community communication projects in Cuba, but help introduce new models and practices in digital journalism education. Students and teachers are invited to think and practice communication ‘from’, ‘to’ and ‘with’ the community. Good Luck!
Muy bueno este proyecto que un grupo de estudiantes de la Facultad de Comunicación de la Universidad de La Habana han hecho posible y que devendrá en obligada consulta…
me parece genial, lo que necesita el país para Mapear la realidad comunitaria cubana…
Hi! This is a very interesting project! It deserves more support ! Young students and journalists working together in order to visualice how has developed the Cuban communities. These topics rarely appears on media, so, it’s a great opportunity for “rising voices”…
