Many people view laziness as a contributing factor to poverty situation among slum people who are mostly women. Being a slum woman, I know these women work very hard but earn very little. This project will collect and share the struggles of these women, how hard they work not just for their welfare but brighter future of their children. It seeks to mobilize support for community led initiates which are more sustainable with tangible impact.

What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
NAIROBI
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
Most slum women are illiterate or semi illiterate and therefore not computer literate. Accessing computers within the slums is also a challenge as many members of this settlement still view computers to belong to s particular class of people. The only way to listen to these voices is to work directly with them as one of them who they trust and believe in.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Through small focus group discussions, stories of willing and inspirational women will be shared and documented both in print and video. A blog will be created for the print stories while the recorded videos will also be posted on line and links shared with different people especially people with special interest on grassroot women welfare and working around the milenium development goals.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
We are working closely with UN Women on citizen participation, voter education and gender responsive civic education, as a result of this, we have earned the trust of this community, we are also involved in WE CAN END ALL VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN Campaign though which we have heard of stories through the neighbourhood circles.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
20 young women will be trained in this project. All the 14 villages will be represented, ethnic and religious affiliations will also be considered to enable smooth running of the project.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
We would further request for publicity of our work and sharing of the work beyond Kenya and Africa. Spreading of the word will help our story reach far and wide.
