UTeens Voice (undeserved Teens Voice) empowers teenagers in eastern Nairobi slums to communicate their ideas, exhibit their potential and take action in their slums using social media platforms. For them to engage in media production; to share their perspectives on social issues that matter most to them and leverage the power of their voice. The project provides them with tools and training on how to create, use blogs and digital arts.

What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Nairobi
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
The combined effect of poverty and general lack of development prevents eastern Nairobi slums residents, particularly youth, from accessing and using online platforms. This is also impeded by a paucity of basic trainings. These Youth are only real hope for a great Kenya. In their dreams and hopes a nation founds her motivation. Their inventiveness, character and orientation define the pace of development through their creative talents.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
The UTeens Voice project news & stories content will consist of coverage of community’s topical and social issues that matter most for development such as education, culture, environment, leadership, entrepreneurship, governance, HIV/AIDS, sports etc. produced in form of blog editorial column, digital arts such as photography, audio and video.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
My organization has a strong presence in eastern Nairobi slums’ youth lives, through its programs such as Community library & resource centre, leadership & entrepreneurship training and community outreach activities.
My organization also has a strong collaboration with residents through partnerships with communities based organizations such as youth groups, churches, high schools and children homes, and government agencies.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
Considering that we will use the Library’s computers for training we will be able to train about 90 youth per year. For follow up and sustenance, the participants will be recruited from community’s permanent residents and/or from already members of community based development groups, our organization members and beneficiaries in the community.

UTeens Voice project i think is really appropriate if we are talking about inclusive development in Kenya… its sad to see some of our fellow citizens left behind but its encouraging to see young kenyans taking risk for their fellows…. live ITF people … your spirit is inspiring. i encourage anyone for your empowerment.
