Action Network for the Disabled (ANDY) and AbleChildAfrica are putting together a Disability Youth Board. They will join with the Kidz Board of UK organisation Whizz-Kidz to add their voices to the debates that directly affect their future. This project aims to train a group of young disabled Kenyan's to effectively use media outreach to strengthen their voices – through a series of trainings and support.

Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
AbleChildAfrica and ANDY are working towards disabled children and young people worldwide getting access to their rights and giving them the best chance of fulfilling their full potential. Disabled children in Africa are a marginalised group, they are often pushed out of schooling and denied opportunities to access the workplace. This makes it hard for them to have the skills and opportunities to access the online world.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Whizz-Kidz and AbleChildAfrica will facilitate the development of the African Disabled Kids Board through ANDY. This will start with joint video conferences – with access provided by CISCO and culminate in a series of exchange visits between the groups. The crowning glory of the project will be a video that documents the journey of the children and the key messages that they want to put out together.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
AbleChildAfrica is an established UK NGO that works in Africa to create lasting change. Whizz-Kidz are an vibrant UK organisation that empowers young disabled people to improve their lives. The partnership between the two organisations will not only provide ANDY with organisational backing to run the project, but also access to funding opportunities to make it sustainable.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
The pilot phase of the project will involve 12 disabled children from the UK and 6 from Kenya. These 18 disabled children are adding their voices to local and global campaigns. Initially, we would hope that they will do outreach work with their disabled peers in Kenya and the UK, but with the Post-2015 debates well underway, the aim of the project is to produce a video that can be shared when the UN General Assembly meet in New York in September.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Young people respond to learning through action, so any funding would be accompanied by training in how best to get messages effectively delivered with clarity and authority using different methods.
