Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GIST) belongs to a rare group of canceres. In Mexico we don’t have an exact number of the people affected by this disease, the main reason: only few doctors can make an appropriate diagnosis of GIST. GIST is a rare disease recently discovered. Our main objective is that trough videos posted in our website and our facebook page people find enough information about the disease, about doctors and experiences.

Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
We will be working with GIST patients and doctors in Mexico that can share useful information. We strongly believe that this unknown disease can be fought by people sharing information, making suggestions of who is the best doctor and the best place to get treatment, websites are the best places to share this information. If doctors and patients have enough information, lives can be saved.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
The Doctors will share information about the disease while patients will share their experiences about which doctors know about GIST, how to get good diagnosis or ask for seconds opinions, where to find treatment, how to live with side effects and some other important information.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
We already have established contact with a group of patients in the USA called the Life Raft Group, they have shared some medical information about the disease that can be useful, and we are also part of Alianza GIST, a Latin-American organization that is working on awareness in our countries. To reach patients and doctors, we are visiting hospitals and medical centers.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
We will try to find as much patiens as we can. Just by using statistics we believe that almost 30 patients can be involved on this project in a year. We will also
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Promote our website around the world, specially in Latin America where lots of people (doctors included) haven´t heard about the disease.
