Rwanda: Gorilla Journalists Center

Gorilla Journalists Center is a futuristic project based in Kigali. We understand that Rwanda is a country of story tellers. Unfortunately, most of these talents have not been nurtured to benefit the society. The Center hopes to utilize the grant to promote the development and distribution of online video in Rwanda. We will conduct extensive workshops on the fundamentals of citizen media to both traditional journalists and common Rwandans. We have laid down structures to encourage our students to share their new skills with marginalized Rwandan communities including survivors of the genocide.

this is awesome when having the idea to be implemented in order to help the communities especially in technology. will your project impact base on gender? I would love to be part of your team

    • Thanks a lot Jean Baptiste for taking your time to drop by at my project. Your kind words is a noble encouragement for me during my journey to impart film making skills to young talents. Concerning your question, Yes, my team is equally aware of the importance of gender balancing in these opportunities. I will take this into consideration. Thanks once again for offering to be part of my team. If you can, please watch this space for the latest updates as i would love to have your contribution.

how will you select the beneficiaries?

    • Thanks Jean Baptiste for your question. My team and i are well prepared to undertake this sensitive part of the project. We have solid plans to base our selection on merit only. This will involves running call for applications on the social media and also visiting the villages in person to recruit our beneficiary. Transparency will forms the basis of this extensive process. Thanks in advance.

Hi Joseph, I just read this blog and I just wanted to thank you for all your hard working and all that you do in helping others, you are a big impact to many young Rwandan filmmakers and I think that this idea is great! its gonna be a huge success, because it’s just not gonna benefit the ones who wants to learn filmmaking but everyone who is in or has been in film, since film making its always a process of learning,I am film student here in North Carolina, USA, I’m about to graduate but I’ve always learning from others and wanting to share what I’ve already learned. I’m very interested in what you’re doing for the filmmakers in Kigali, and I just feel like I wanna be part of this! I could learn from you’all, and some could learn something from me. Please tell me how I could work with you all to help. I’m very interested.
We have lot’s of stories to tell and we can’t let others tell them for us.

    • Thanks Hassan for taking your time to check my project. Your kind words is the morale that i need to accomplish this project. I am definitely looking forward for collaboration with different filmmakers from different parts of the world. Reading from you gives me a lot of hope for working together in our future projects. I will definitely keep you posted on how my project progress as i believe your input will greatly inspire the completion of the project. I won’t conclude my response without quoting your last sentence ‘We have lot’s of stories to tell and we can’t let others tell them for us’- it is TRUE and i now make your quote my post on facebook.

Dear Joseph,as long as you do what you really love, your project will truly be successful ! i know you have passion and love in film making and journalism ,and some youth Rwandans still lack knowledge and skills in story telling. keep going my friend !

    • Hey Jean Claude! Long time my friend. Are you still in the country of a thousand hills and a million smiles? Thanks a lot for your kind words and your trust in me to pull this project. I totally agree with you that there are lots of Rwandan youths who desperately need to learn story telling skills. There has never been a better time to impart these skills than now! I will definitely keep you updated on how everything unfolds. Thanks once again for your invaluable support!

  • I know these men. They are aware of many untold stories in the heart of Africa. Any support rendered to them is highly appreciated.

    Hi Joseph,

I think this is a brilliant idea. I have to repeat what some of the other commenters have said just because i feel it pretty much sums up my view. I know you have a great passion for filmmaking and journalism and so i know you could really make a massive impact with this project. i guess, all that’s left for me to say is good luck.
