Overall description of the project: the project will involve building and/or enhancing the capacity of hopegivers organization to prevent and minimize women's human rights violation through training for appropriate skills, awareness raising and litigation assistance and foster peace and harmony among various ethnic groups in the project site. To provide precedent setting legal assistance (Test cases) to a maximum of 3 women who have been disinherited together with their children from the estate of their deceased spouses.

The target group and estimated size of the target group.
15 community based women's, youths and orphans organization. The centre will be working through at least five community based organizations and NGOs in the various divisions of the constituency Bomet East, Chepalungu and Sotik.
estimated size of the target groups in the three Divisions is 15 by 15 =750. Each of the 750 community based organization members will be encouraged to share information with a further 10 persons not drawn from their membership. This translates to 7500 multiplier effect outreach.
Women and orphans play a vital role. Once you have empowered women you have empowered these vulnerable children. These groups are mostly underrepresented in many ways and Hopegivers want to work with them.
Who else will be on your team to help implement the project?
An advocate/lawyer to receive instructions from the six women victims in
consultation with Hopegivers Organization and file test cases in
appropriate courts of competent jurisdiction. A a research assistance to
contact a follow up baseline survey on the nature, extent and
prevalence of violation of women's and orphans rights to property and
inheritance in the selected three regions. The two resource persons will
have expertize in women and orphan rights, property and inheritance
awareness project and relevant international conventions respectively.
The test cases will be filed in court base in Kericho, which has a High
Court. There will be a sustained media strategy, which will keep
cases, highlighted in the public domain.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Realizing of the importance of effective social protection strategies for
vulnerable groups especially women and orphans, Hopegivers have created
a comprehensive framework in addressing the needs of special categories
among others. The magnitude of these special groups situations calls
for concerted efforts from all stakeholders. Through the Rising Voices
we will be able to realize a lot of women and orphans who have been
disinherited and their rights being violated coming out to address their
problems in an open forum and use of citizen media to share their own
stories.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established or plan to establish that will contribute to the success of the project.
In regard to these, we will work together with other non-governmental
organization working in similar objectives as ours. a number of
organizations have been offering assistance to these special groups of
women and orphans through various interactions. We will be working with
the following;
-The department of children's services (KENYA)
-We plan to work with the UK conventions on the rights of children
(UNCRC)
-African charter on the rights and welfare of children (ACRWC) and Hague
convention among others.
How many participants do you think will be trained in your project?
-A total of 36,000 members, particularly women reached with human rights
information relating to women's and orphan's rights, property and
inheritance awareness project.
-1800 public awareness materials (fliers) with international conventions
on women's rights, particularly conventions on the elimination of all
forms of discrimination against women, men or orphans (CEDAWO)
distributed.
Hopegivers will ensure their participation is sustained in a number of
ways. Their advocate/lawyer will be contracted and a schedule of court
fees acquired on their behalf.
Hopegivers will also ensure that their rights are kept and not violated
in any manner. We will also provide free training, and refreshment
during the interaction session.
Describe which technologies, tools, and media you will focus on when training participants.
The actual sites of the project in terms of outreach will be rural. most of
our participants are computer illiterate and our focus when training
our participants will be only through face to face forums. Most of our
participants also will find it most difficult to relate with other users
like English and Kiswahili which are our official languages. We will
allow them to share their stories through their mother tongue and use of
an interpreter. Hopegivers will provide translation copies, data and
provide digital tools to compute their stories. It will also ensure a
sustained media strategy during the training of participants.
Describe the facilities where you will hold the workshops.
Most of our workshops which facilitates within the project sites will not
have computers, ADSL or Dial-up. The only one available will be those
provided by the Hopegivers and set to be used only by the resource
persons.
What is your current relationship with the community with whom you plan to work? What makes you the most appropriate individual or organization to implement this project?
Hopegivers Organization deals with the special group of women and orphans in its
area of operation and this makes us the most appropriate organization to
implement the said project. Our commitment and plans towards these
special groups is long term. We are currently working alongside
community based organization spread in Bomet County. Each community
based organization has an average of 35 members, and in terms of
outreach and training will be rural.
What specific challenges do you expect to face when planning and implementing your project?
Community members in the project sites have already developed acceptance of
Hopegivers other intervention activities as such, the proposed activity
will not require new entry points and levels. instead the proposed activity constitute a re-engineering process which will focus in a refined and targeted way on women and orphans Right: property and inheritance awareness project. And in view of the foregoing, there will be negligible or nil obstructive community pressure on the proposed activity.
How will you measure and evaluate the project’s impact, specifically: your primary participants, the wider regional community, or the global digital community?
High profile legal test cases shall have been filed in court and legal precedents set as basis for legal and policy reform; in addition the plight of disinherited women and orphans shall have been brought to the limelight and court of public opinion. This will in turn lead to other women experiencing similar problems to come forward; communities shall have among them their own members who have gained additional skills in property rights and inheritance and / or succession issues. A critical mass of community level members, particularly women and orphans shall be aware of their rights with regards to property,ownership and inheritance and shall have heightened claim making capacity in this regards;in addition,community members will have sufficient information on recent legislative changes.
