What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
koraput
Describe the specific population with whom you will be working.
SHED will be working with the Kondh tribal and dalit women of Koraput district in Odisha where SHED is involved. These tribal and dalit women are being controlled by their men. The project will visualize the bad habits , but also show many community practices to prevent and eliminate violence against women, the transmission of knowledge such as Government measures to promote women's role and quota for their posts in important local Governance positions, identity and culture. Women in the area, though elected for important posts like Sarpanch, Naik sarpanch etc, are not allowed by their men to exercise their authorities in that governance instead they are beaten to allow men to function in their wife's role to exercise all authority. They are not familiar in computer and internet facility.
Who else will be on your team to help implement the project?
Dr Mark Gnanasigamony as a trainer along with Alpheus Danson as videographer will be involved in this. Women will be organized and trained by Kalavati, Anita Dhal, Saudamini Majhi, Para Muska, Nado Hikoka who could successfully function in local Governance.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Panchayati Raj is the third tier of Governance in India and women's quota in different power positions in it is well defined. Many women in this State particularly tribal and Dalit women do not understand the importance of their direct involvement in this Governance system. Instead they surrender to their husband and father when violence was exercised on them to remain just as a signatory alone while the men folk actually run the show for their own gains. These women who are elected to rule became slaves to their husbands and suffer physical and mental agony. These tribal and dalit women are mostly having only the basic education and do not have outside exposures. The success stories happening around as well as legal education and training makes them to come out of this shell.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established or plan to establish that will contribute to the success of the project.
INDIENHILFE EV, HERRSCHING, Germany had been partnered with SHED in making the women folk to come out of their shell. Women activists of the area are also involved in promoting women's empowerment in Panchayati Raj system by having coalition with SHED. Other Non Governmental Organizations, Integrated Child development Scheme officials, Social Welfare department of Government are also interested to get involved in this project.
How many participants do you think will be trained in your project?
Twenty One women tribal and dalit leaders will be trained on the rights of women, digital video, photography and participate in all stages of the project training, development of script, participation in the development of video and presentation. The video documentary will be in native language and to be translated for uploading in the web for sharing with the global audience. The content will also be recorded on DVD. This will be projected through bigger screens to women in the rural areas of the district where there is no internet and also serve as a training material.
Describe which technologies, tools, and media you will focus on when training participants.
Through training workshops SHED expects the tribal and dalit women will learn about the digital photography, basics of editing digital audio and video, and share these capabilities through the Internet through social networking sites like you tube and Face book. Women social organizations working in the area need the expertise women to bring out the regular local violence situations and lack of awareness among the grass root level lesser educated and innocent women. For this this sort of documentary is needed due to local dialect and language among tribal women of the area is only kui while State language is Odia which is not understood by many women. Women will be trained in the basics of visual language, digital photography, making script and active participation in documentary video.

What is your current relationship with the community with whom you plan to work? What makes you the most appropriate individual or organization to implement this project?
SHED is well versed with the community and its problems as it has been there for the last seven years. It has its infrastructures and local village youth who are trained by SHED for their involvement in education and community problems. They will also get involved in this project. We know the political, social and cultural situation of the sector and its potential challenges to achieve their rights
What specific challenges do you expect to face when planning and implementing your project?
Resistance of local leaders area against the organization to strengthen women's capabilities and in women's rights in the audiovisual language basics, digital photography, making script and active participation in the documentary video. Men of the area want to make women always surrendering to their power and so they will not allow the women to participate in this program. We will overcome this by motivating the village level animators who were trained by SHED for other development programs in the villages.
How will you measure and evaluate the project’s impact, specifically: your primary participants, the wider regional community, or the global digital community?
