Many around the world will be gathering with their families celebrating Mother's Day on Sunday, May 11. In Mexico, artist Silvana Ávila thought it would be an ideal occasion to honor mothers in an indigenous language from the state of Oaxaca. She wrote on her Tumblr blog, “my country is multicultural and diverse. Here spanish is not the only language.”
She created a set of postcards with illustrations and phrases from a Ayuujk (Mixe) song called Tääku'nk written by author Palemón Vargas. The cards can be found on her blog.
Translation: Even though I am far away, I will not forget you, mother.
