The project consists in training 20 young people about video production. At the end of the training cycle the youngsters will produce documentaries, short movies, reportages and chronics. The products will be distributed in social network such as Facebook, MySpace, YouTube channel.

What locality or neighborhood will your project focus on?
Vlora
Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
The target group are young people age 15-18 years old, especially from vulnerable groups, cultural and ethnic minorities. Young people’s voice should be heard and be an important part of public and cultural life of the city. But lack of cultural facilities where they can express their talents is making them individualistic. Youth’s participation in public life has not been a priority in the local government, making young people feel left apart.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
After being trained by VYC staff and experts, the youngsters will meet together, share their ideas and decide by themselves the topics on which to develop their work. The short movies, documentaries, chronics and reportages produced by them will be based on their talents, creativity and expressive skills. These products will be transmitted for a larger audience through social networks by making possible gaining the public feedback on their work.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
VYC throughout 2001-2010 has been coordinating the local youth video bureau, “Troç”. This program was transmitted once a week at the Albanian National Television. It was made by 12 Regional bureaus which every week sent short chronics to be transmitted. The proposed project will put in use the experience and connections gained during the “Troç” project implementation, expanding the transmission through web channels, YouTube and social networks.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
There will be realized three cycles of trainings. The 1st cycle will last 3 months in which will participate 20 young people. This training will be guided & monitored by experts from local and national media. When the cycle will be over, it will be organized two more trainings cycles but this time the trainers will be the young people themselves, those who were trained from the first training cycle, supported also by the permanent staff of VYC
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
The Rising Voice could broadcast our products on their web pages, making this way Vlora’s youth heard in a wider international audience. Secondly, to organize an international online youth exchange within the young people participating in similar projects around the word. Thirdly if/when it is possible offering opportunities to the young people who will be part of the project to participate and compete in international film festivals.
