Voices Of the Disabled people in the land of thousand hills or VoD1000 project will empower young people with disabilities in Rwanda to use digital media.We will offer instruction on basic internet , and social media usage, publication design, job readiness skills, and civic engagement skills during technical training for this minority.We will create blogs and provide them with speech recognition software and other useful special software tools.

As in many parts of the world, the lives of people with disabilities in Rwanda are hindered by lack of new technologies.Despite the efforts of the Government in promoting ICT in the communities, the people with disabilities are still at margin due to various challenges related to their disabilities which prevent them from accessing the new media technologies .The new media,especially digital media,can transform the life of this minority.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Our vision is to promote disability issues in Rwanda, the Land of Thousands Hills,online through blogging.The blog will be mainly a forum for informal discussion about events, policies, challenges and success stories related to disability rights in Rwanda as well as information on the availability of special resources for people with disabilities across the world.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?

We are already connected to the One Billion Strong , an international, non-profit, non-governmental organization working to advance the rights of persons with disabilities and to facilitate participation, equality, and inclusion in society. The success of the project will also enable a partnership with MIUSA , a cross-disability organization serving those with cognitive, hearing, learning, mental health, physical, systemic, vision and other disab
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
The VoD1000 project will train 77 university students with disabilities in Rwanda. After training completion, each project volunteer will be obliged to train his / her fellows, neighbors and friends in his/her home community to become the future project volunteers through “peer-to-peer support” in order to sustain the project.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Speech recognition software and word prediction ,talking word processors, screen readers, and screen enlargers.

Digitization is the way to go. Disabled persons cannot afford to be left behind. This is a worthwhile initiative that will boost the synergy, skills and connect disabled to the modern world where people speak one voice-technology. Kudos
