Finalist – Nepal: Travel Story Camp on Guerrilla Trek

Nepal is a mountainous land-locked country. Although its natural beauty is ever appreciated by all, tourism in Nepal is yet to be cultivated to match with its potentials. Inability to publicize Nepal as a destination internationally has been deemed one of the reasons. Obviously, presence of local tourism entrepreneurs on the internet is barely noticed and it has led to failure in terms of attracting prospective tourists. So it’s our endeavor to put Nepal on the global tourism map through the use of internet in a bid to positively influence the travelers as well as information seekers.

Finalist – Kenya: The Maasai Woman Diary

After the Kenya General elections in March 2013, Kenya will have the first government under the new constitution. Women need to be educated on the opportunities and benefits that come with the new system of governance. This will change the daily activities of the maasai woman. Women will be encouraged to tap the opportunities available to better their lives. This project seeks to give women a voice amidst a culture that dictates for a society ruled by men making women the subject. It will also highlight their socioeconomic needs and share it will the world in a bid to create possible solutions

Finalist – Brazil: This Is Our Place Film Festival

We at Pronesis Institute of Audiovisual and Social Change have been training low-income youth to produce socially and environmentally engaged documentaries. These short documentaries (5 in total) will be shown to the community in a local film festival that will also be open to other local films. All of the films talk about social and environmental problems of the second poorest region of the State of São Paulo, Brazil. We hope the festival can be attended by many people, especially youth, and we already have confirmation from the mayor that she will attend.

Finalist – Indonesia: From Disable for Disable Project

The project has two main stages: 1) Providing citizen media training to disable persons and enabling them ability to conduct training to transfer skills they gained to their peers. This will use ToT method and participants are expected to be able use handy came, do simple video and sound editing, and choose message to be delivered in the participatory-advocacy video. 2) Delivering citizen media training by and for disable persons. It gives opportunity to first-stage-participants to exercise their skills and produce an advocacy video with their groups targeted to policy makers.

Finalist – Mauritania: Popular Memory (MemoRIM)

MemoRim is about regrouping, documenting and making electronically available the culture, traditions, languages, life style… of old Mauritanian society, By contacting and working with local communities in 4 corners of Mauritania where these cultures and practices are still found and taking from them all material or spiritual related things in form of Pictures audios and videos.Regrouping as much as possible of this culture .When the pages of MemoRIM launch and the content becomes available organized and deeply reviewed, we have a database or a general reference and memory for this society.

Finalist – Uganda: Female Documentary Film Training on Women Advocacy

“One out of three women will experience Violence in her life time”! Women around the world are subjected to violence in many forms that has reduced opportunities for women to compete favorably at all levels. These forms of violence include human trafficking, sexual violence and harmful traditional practices like Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The more violence against women continues, the more their rights are restricted. The project is meant to enlighten and awaken this group to acquire skills on how to document women’s issues and support women rights activism in our society.

Peru: Expressions of Indigenous Contemporary Art Network

Bolivia: Exteme Tarija

A project that shows the need to form active communities that can promote its heritage, and based on the participation of the community members in the town of Tarija. Tourism development affects the promotion of essential values of our cultural heritage, as well as promoting the community participation in cyberspace and the digital world.

Bolivia: Revaluation of the Yuracaré Language

The language of the Yurakaré culture is a language that has survived to this day. However, contact with the Castilian language has been an influence on the speakers, the language, and culture. Currently the Yurakaré language is considered to be endangered. Thus, we propose to strengthen the Yurakaré identity and oral tradition through the spread of its language with young people exploring new technologies that recently reached the community.

Guatemala: Pueblo CLIC

Pueblo CLIC is a nonprofit website, which was created with the purpose of projecting the art, culture and natural beauty of San Lucas Toliman, located around Lake Atitlan. The main idea is to boost intercultural tourism and thus, contribute to the local economy of its residents and therefore, improve lives.
