The project is about cerebral palsy (CP), which is an impairment which results from brain damage. For example, a person may face difficulties in walking, speaking, and making use of hands. In Uganda, there is negative perceptions of community members who do not belief that youths with CP can learn just like the able bodied ones. This limits the number of Youths with CP who are computer literate with the ability and access to internet. The project aims increasing participation of Youths with CP in the social media through trainings on how to use you tube, face book, twitter to tell life stories

Describe the specific population with whom you will be working.
Uganda National Association of Cerebral Palsy (UNAC) had a meeting with the Committee members of Youth with Cerebral Palsy and discussed the answers to all questions by themselves. Youth with Cerebral Palsy are underrepresented on line in the way that
– The majority are illiterate due to not having gone to school as a result of misconception that they cannot learn just like other people.
– They lack access to information especially on the social media and how it can impact on their situation.
Therefore UNAC would like to work with Youth with Cerebral Palsy because it is within its mandate to amplify the voices of persons with cerebral palsy. The majority of Youth with Cerebral Palsy are illiterate; their level of computer or internet familiarity is low.

UNAC is an organization that was formed two and a half years ago and has been housed and mentored by National Union of Disabled persons of Uganda (NUDIPU), which has exposed members of UNAC to the social Media.
NUDIPU is housed in her own premises and the building is connected with wireless internet which makes it easier for Youths with CP to access the social media as long as they have Computers.
NUDIPU already has its own face book and twitter Account and this makes it easier for the youths with Cerebral Palsy build on this to open their own twitter account and website.

How many participants do you think will be trained in your project?
Eight participants.•
A number of sustainability strategies have been embedded in the project design and implementation. These include:
• The office of Uganda National Association of Cerebral Palsy (UNAC) is still located in the NUDIPU offices which have free wireless internet. This will help in ensuring that they continue supporting even after the project has ended.
• Interested participants will be registered and mentored in the use of social media to promote mainstreaming of youths with Cerebral Palsy.
Describe which technologies, tools, and media you will focus on when training participants.
The technologies are skype, face book, twitter and you tube
The tools are mobile phones, computer and projector
The project organizer will mobilize, coordinate and implement project activities, accounting of funds after the activity has taken place, write reports and submit to the Raising voices microgrants, monitor and evaluate the success of the project
As longer as Youth with cerebral Palsy have the knowledge and skills on the social media or soft ware, they can access face book, skype, you tube and twitter where ever they are. This gives them an opportunity to participate in the global media
Describe the facilities where you will hold the workshops.
National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda house – it is accessible, friendly environment, with enough space for training
It has 3 computers that will be in training and others members own their laptops.
What is your current relationship with the community with whom you plan to work? What makes you the most appropriate individual or organization to implement this project?
Uganda National Association of cerebral Palsy is the umbrella organization for the target group (Youth with Cerebral Palsy). Uganda National Association of cerebral Palsy has a mission of empowering persons with Cerebral Palsy and advocating for their rights to participate in sustainable development initiatives, therefore implementing this project will equip participants with skills and knowledge for sustainable living
What specific challenges do you expect to face when planning and implementing your project?
Fear of the participants to share their stories therefore participants shall be empowered during the workshop to build confidence of storytelling.
Parents restricting participants not to attend the workshop by themselves. Some parents don’t allow their children to move away from home without any one accompanying them. A NUDIPU vehicle will be provided to pick participants from their homes
Bias from family members and other people sounding them may discourage participants from narrating their stories or give as wrong stories for impression, therefore UNAC will enforce ethical issues whereby all stories collected will be used for only the purpose for which they are meant to serve.
How will you measure and evaluate the project’s impact, specifically: your primary participants, the wider regional community, or the global digital community?
Uganda National Association of Cerebral Palsy shall measure success of the project if the participants are able to share the skills and knowledge acquired with their communities, post their information about cerebral Palsy on social networks for a wider range of influence towards positive change on global community through periodic follow ups and evaluation by the organization on individual beneficiaries.
UNAC will also do surveys on how many youth with cerebral Palsy are using social media and also how many people are giving feedback on the information posted on face book page, Twitter and you tube
