Young women journalists and activists will be engaged in creating citizen's journalism to promote freedom of expression to address gender based violence, women’s rights and empowerment by echoing the voices of the grassroots women. Few female Journalists and activists have the opportunity to speak out freely on issues that affect women. Women's concerns are not given priority in bringing out the voices of women in their communities. There is no forum were women journalists and activists are engaged on development issues that seriously engage them to effectively make their voices heard on personal, community or national issues.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Female journalists and young activists will be engaged constructively on matters that affect female sexuality, address gender based violence, Women's human rights as citizens and empowerment by echoing the voices of women. Different areas of development from health, education, women’s economic and political engagements will be looked at and the leadership of women.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?

GAMCOTRAP has its own head office. It has a Library, Conference room for 12 people and a Training hall with a capacity of more than fifty people. It as a wireless internet connection and has three computers and two laptops that can be shared. It has internet security with firefox on its computers. It is situated in a quiet area in the institutional area and it is accessible to the public.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
Initially, five core young women journalists and activists will be engaged. They will be engaged to write on development issues affecting female sexuality and rights of women such as Female Genital Mutilation, early and forced marriages, gender based violence and other issues that empower women as citizens.
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Rising voices can further provide equipments such as new computers, video cameras and accessories to help in advancing the professional recording, production and editing work in documenting the voices of women. It can advance the project to move from photography to digital video, thus more visibility of women’s rights issues.
