This project will seek to amplify the voices of the marginalized PWDs in Mombasa, Kenya. The project hopes to train and mobilize PWDs as champions and advocates of their rights through citizen’s media. The project will identify potential PWDs and train them on their specific rights and advocacy skills to enable them engage on national matters as well as fight for their rights. The project hopes to expose and address PWDs rights violations.

Describe the specific community with whom you will be working.
The project will work with PWDs including the deaf, blind and the physically challenged whose rights have been marginalized due their various incapacities. These groups have no access and do not enjoy online and other citizen media activities due to their perceived incapacities. This project seeks to work with the blind, the deaf, and the physically challenged so that they can equally contribute to the national issues in the country.
What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Stories and news about violations of PWDs rights will be created and highlighted through different sources of media such as the internet and community radio.
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?
Describe the connections that you or your organization have already established that will contribute to the success of the project.
The organization is currently implementing a social media advocacy project and has established a pool of resource persons trained on social media monitoring. The organization has also established networking with WITNESS an organization based in the New York specializing in video advocacy. HURIA has also been trained on video advocacy.
How many participants do you think will be involved in your project?
The project hopes to train around 50 participants who will be empowered as champions and advocates for the rights of PWDs
Besides the microgrant funding, what other resources and support are you seeking for your project to ensure its success?
Participation of the PWDs will be sustained through the trainings that will empower them as a advocates for their rights. The project will seek to create prominence and relevant visibility with an aim of attracting more funding to expand the project.
