There is undoubtedly a widespread and urgent need for a service that offers accessible and affordable computer education for senior citizens. The everyday use of new media is nowadays taken for granted by all young people but for older adults, however, it is not so common. The project aims to provide older adults with knowledge of using new technology, especially internet so they can establish on line participation on issues that affect them (e.g. e-democracy). In this way they will increase social contact and reduce feelings of isolation so they feel more integrated into the society.
Erosion of culture has caused decay of many people especially the youths. This is becouse they lack knowledge or people who they can learn from. This project will act as the persona where they can learn from, we will do this by visiting the eldery people who seems to be forgoten and having talkshows with them and hence bringing them in new technology eg in twitter where most youths go in search of information.
The project will work with Elderly persons, students and teachers in advocating for the rights of suffering old persons who are abused by younger generations because of social economic pressure and breakdown social fabric which acted as security. In the different schools there will be a group of students and teachers to collect and disseminate information through blog and social sites.
We will equip a special age-group with the knowledge and abilities to use the new media as the tool to share information and experiences with the peers and to be able to be activly involved in the process of creating the content of the local newspaper. Participants will learn: researching information, selecting, photos-making and treatment into the digital materials for Internet Local Newspaper for senior citizens.
We started a monthly e-newsletter “Voice of Senior Citizens” in English in 2011 that shares information on status of 60+ population of Nepal with more than 3000 concerned organizations and individuals across the globe. In 2012 we started publication of three-monthly 50 page magazine “senior citizens” to inform Nepali readers about globally ongoing activities for senior citizens. We need support to continue these initiatives with improvements.
