It´s a program of participatory workshops and self-managed video production, developed for Morelos young people, with the objective to create networks that allow them to integrate as a community to produce capsules in video that portray people, customs, traditions and daily life of their environment, particularly focused on the preservation and promotion of the work of local artisans and intangible heritage.

Describe the specific population with whom you will be working.
Young people of the Eastern part of the state of Morelos in Mexico, who suffer from serious limitations to develop their skills and to progress both economically and socially. In this area live more than 100,000 young people between 15 and 29 years, and their level of education does not reach the eighth grade. But they already have basic knowledge of internet, computing and social networking. In Morelos 78% of the economically active population earns less than 2 minimum wages (50 Mexican pesos, 4.1 U.S. dollars). One solution is, to acquire new skills to develop productive activities, joining as a community and networking. This means, learning theory and techniques of audiovisual content production, with topics of interest to them and their own communities generating productive projects.

What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
The contents of the videos are aimed to strengthen community identity and promote the traditions and customs of their environment. Were initially generated as exercises derived from the workshops about production, editing, post production and documentary script leguaje, with the objective that they develop their own multimedia project. Using as citizen media output, the internet (Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo, Youtube) and public screenings in the town, for analysis in order that students develop their critical and analytical capacities on projects they are working.

How many participants do you think will be trained in your project?
The project will be implemented each year at 2 locations in the State of Morelos. Each initiation we hope 10 participants, who need to have commitment to replicate their know. Our goal is to have a minimum of 60 participants trained by us in the next 3 years. Mi Pueblo TV is based on the production of digital audiovisual material susceptible to be distributed over the Internet. Such material will be assembled and promoted through a portal designed for this purpose and in different social networks associated with the project. Also be screened in cultural centers and public places.
Describe which technologies, tools, and media you will focus on when training participants.
Film, Video, Radio, TV, Multimedia (net-art, sound art, softwareart, robotics, authorial electronics, video synthesis, authorial interactivity, digital art, tactical-media, etc.) Through: Courses, forums. Our skills and expertise are: Classical and traditional arts (music, painting, drawing, alebrijes, masks, puppets, toys), Visual arts (animation drawing cut, stop motion, graphic design, video recording, editing, Final Cut, After Efects post production), Sustainability (use of indigenous raw materials for handicrafts, sustainable gardens to art production processes). Because these are artistic and technological means young people are sensitized and the have access to alternative means to distribute their stories breaking dynamics of marginalization caused by the lack of cultural services.

What is your current relationship with the community with whom you plan to work? What makes you the most appropriate individual or organization to implement this project?
Arte Sustentable Comparsa Falfán is a civil association that seeks the transformation of the individual and society through culture and art. We have given free workshops for infants, youth and target audiences since 2006 serving an average of 45 people a week continuously. As art collective we have participated for more than 40 years in a traditional festival, developing stage projects with the community. Our goal with this project is to help strengthen the creative ability, cultural identity and relationships of coexistence among youth communities in the state of Morelos through the formation of groups of audiovisual, artistic expression and cultural promotion.
What specific challenges do you expect to face when planning and implementing your project?
Within these communities, there are high rates of migration to other countries and poverty. This has generated a high level of apathy in the population. But we are sure that the carry out in community cultural centers, where local art groups organized are the responsible of their own project, we will draw your attention and have a commitment to the care of equipment and facilities. We also want to promote the project to people who have emigrated to the United States and elsewhere. It will be a great effort for preservation of cultural identity and community for young people to stay in touch with friends and relatives abroad.
How will you measure and evaluate the project’s impact, specifically: your primary participants, the wider regional community, or the global digital community?
Arte Sustentable A.C. work with a methodology for building networks, we know that we need to go through several steps until the network work independently and come to a stage of maturity. We can define “success” when integrated network of community Mi Pueblo TV, operate self-sufficiently and have your own TV channel on the web. When young people have appropriate and productive way to work collectively. One way to evaluate us is to ensure that the project operated in two locations in the State of Morelos per year, educate and train at least 10 people per place and replicate. We are currently training to perform diagnostics on violence, so that later we will use this tool to apply to the program as a form of prevention.

Besides the microgrant funding, what other support can Rising Voices provide for your project to ensure its success?
Being a Civil Association nonprofit, Sustainable Art is capitalizing through networking, which will be our platform for continuing and strengthening our projects, as the same exists within a network of donors, other civil associations with which we have established exchanges, of artists who are collaborating with us, of beneficiaries and institutions that we can support. We will present this project but long term, as our program is permanent, to the FONCA and UNESCO initially. And we are advising the young participants to concursen in different microgrants.
