Macedonia: Visuallizing NGO’s Success Stories in Macedonia

The project proposal has the overall objective of raising the awareness and educating the NGO sector members in Macedonia for overcoming the major encountered obstacles during the start-up phase. The project consists of two main activities: producing a short documentary with success stories of NGO’s that have already successfully passed the start-up phase and organizing one 4-hour workshop on “Experiencing the Start-Up Phase and Digitalization for NGO’s” intended for members of newly established NGO’s in Macedonia. The project will last from 1 August – 31 December 2014.

Netherlands: Undercover Peacebuilders

Undercover Peacebuilders empowers young activists to collect stories of hidden peacebuilders in their local communities and spread it online. The project is a follow-up of a digital storytelling workshop, allowing them to put the learned skills into practice and connecting them to issues important to their communities. The participants will act as loudspeakers for a peacemaker in the community who traditionally has no voice beyond it. Our vision is to link digital skills of young activists to locals with a meaningful story to give them a voice and tell the unique reality of a community online.

Nigeria: Back to Basics

I hope to train the youth on animation to produce animated short traditional igbo language moonlight folktales. This project B2B is meant to use social media to revive the dying Igbo language & culture. It's been predicted by UNESCO Advisory Committee on Language Pluralism & Multi-language Education that Igbo language & culture will go into extinct by year 2025. if nothing is done. Hence, we intend making it appealing to youth by making use of this youth friendly medium. I intend working with young people from already established skill learning set-up so as to have an organized forum

Kyrgyzstan: Videos about Human Values

The project is handled by a youth volunteer center located in Karakol, Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan. It is a series of short videos made by young volunteers about community life in Kyrgyzstan. Each video puts forward a human value and explains why it is important: peace, solidarity, democracy, health, environment. All the videos will be shown to children and teenagers in various places in Kyrgyzstan, like orphanages, schools, kindergartens, and on internet.

Mexico: Making Visible the Invisible

Design a digital campaign to make visible the phenomenon of disappeared persons in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Since the actual government security policy is to control the media to diminish or eliminate perception of violence & insecurity in the country & the states. We want to give voice to the families of the disappeared through a digital storytelling with their testimonies in order to create public awareness, promote denounce, prevent new cases & inform citizens about disappearances. Macedonia: Citizens Beyond the Margins – Teachers’ Views!

This project aims at encouraging citizenship education teachers to voice (1) the affect of citizenship education on their primary-school students; and (2) the difficulties they are facing in regards to teaching citizenship education. The project team will visit up to 8 teachers in most remote areas of the country and support them to record their stories, produce videos and share them on-line. Other citizenship teachers will be invited to post their own videos on the newly created f-book group. The post with most ‘likes’ will win the mobile phone purchased and used for the project activities.

Brazil: Experimental Video for Teenagers

This project aims to provide training and support to adolescents from São Francisco Xavier community and region, to learn how to use online media to tell their story. As a result, we hope to empower participants to create experimental videos independently and start an online video channel for the local community. This channel will be used to rescue and spread the local culture and history, drawing attention to critical issues to the community. We hope to involve adolescents and young adults in the activities and enable some participants as instructors, allowing more continuity to the project.

Zimbabwe: Our Voice, Our Pride – Beyond the Prison Walls

Ex -prisoners have often faced discrimination and called damning names in by communities and people. Thus this project seeks to remove this stigma from the community by allowing ex-prisoners to document their stories, challenges and success in the community through the use of a blog. This blog will allow ex-prisoners to create a voice in the community, to share their talents in story writing, to showcase their poems and life changing issues they want to discuss. This will increase their visibility and participation in the community.

In Nigeria, various communities and minority ethnic, linguistic and religious groups are faced with political and religious discrimination. Poverty is sustained by lack of access to resources and opportunities. Insecurity retards development for rural dwellers. The project will work in Jema’a, Kaura and Zangon Kataf LGAs of Kaduna State that have faced years of religious conflicts and discrimination. It will focus on building capacities of community actors to create voice and mobilize support for issues. Digital Storytelling which combines technology and media will be utilized for trainings.
