Perform training in public journalism for everyone who desires in Zdolbuniv district of Rivne region (population – 60,000 people). The following issues shall be considered during the training: how to find news in a town, a village; how to tell the story only from a picture; why video cannot be questioned; where you can tell your story in the Web; why it is not enough to do the good and useful thing – you also need to tell it to people. After the training the participants shall do the practical work in their own locations, prepare text, audio, video materials for publication

The most recent statistics of Internet activity http://zdolbunivcity.net/zdolbunivskyj-internet-lyutyj-2014/ shows that 100 websites refer to Zdolbuniv Internet segment with only three of which having mass media nature where one is being social media as far as it has been established by ZEON NGO. The number of social networks users geographically relevant to the District is as follows:

Overall based on the findings, the level of Internet access in Rivne region amounts to 2%, which equals to the same value as, for instance, in Afghanistan http://uk.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%86%D0%BD%D1%82%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%BD%D0%B5%D1%82_%D0%B2_%D0%A3%D0%BA%D1%80%D0%B0%D1%97%D0%BD%D1%96

What kinds of news, stories and other content will be created?
Stories of public news writers, picture stories, stories of local places of interest, tourist attractions, landmarks. They will be posted at Zdolbuniv City website and in the printed paper (texts + pictures).
What technologies and digital tools do you plan to use in the trainings?

Collaboration with Zdolbuniv District Library. It has a computer room with PC's with Internet access, where trainings can be performed.
How many participants do you think will be trained in your project?
During the 2-days training we are planning to train 20 people from Rivne region. Residents of Zdolbuniv district, and also people with little experience in stories writing, photo publications will have priority.
Describe which technologies, tools, and media you will focus on when training participants.
The Zdolbuniv City paper and web site shall be as the basic work example. Zdolbuniv City – is a social media established by nongovernmental organization in March 2012.
Our team has experience in performance of such type of trainings in 2012 and 2013 with the assistance of foundations Love Ukraine, U-media, Internews (USAID). As a result we have already created social news writers group https://vk.com/club52529211 which involves 30 people, published a book “Social journalism and major social media”. We have created a brand-new information and analytical web-site which is now browsed by 30,000 people for 150,000 times per month, our social network groups account for over 3,000 people, which is practically every third resident of the district with Internet access.

Zdolbuniv District Library – 8 workplaces, ADSL connection, 1 Mbit/s speed; Zdolbuniv Culture Center of Cement Production Industry – 20 seats, work on personal laptops, Wi-Fi with 1 Mbit/s speed, town and village environment (searching for news, photo and video shooting) without Internet access.
What is your current relationship with the community with whom you plan to work? What makes you the most appropriate individual or organization to implement this project?
We are virtually the only nongovernmental organization in the District engaged in public journalism (there are only two mass media in the region of such kind), we have lots of friends among citizens. We have no governmental support, because we closely monitor their activity.
What specific challenges do you expect to face when planning and implementing your project?
No challenges are expected, and in case such arise we will find alternative ways to complete the project successfully.
How will you measure and evaluate the project’s impact, specifically: your primary participants, the wider regional community, or the global digital community?
Successful performance indicators:
1) Increase in number of public journalists (not less than to 15 people)
2) Increase in number of Zdolbuniv City authors (not less than to 10 people)
3) Number of articles written by new project participants and published during the project (not less than 20 in two months)
4) Number of blogs, web-sites created by the participants (not less than 5)
5) Number of published printed issues of Zdolbuniv City (not less than 4)
6) Number of information in media about the project (not less than 10)
7) Increase in Zdolbuniv City web-site traffic and expansion of Zdolbuniv City groups in social networks (not less than 32,000 per month)
