Philippines: Voices of Hop – From Victims to Activism

  April 8, 2014

The project is a citizens’ journalism training for 15 leaders to trumpet the stories of people’s courage and hope from the devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan, the oil spill and government negligence. This aims to enhance our community radio program in empowering the affected communities of Estancia, Iloilo in rising above and speaking out loud our advocacy for environmental, economic and political justice. The project will amplify our people’s stories of rising up in multi-media forms and will be posted online through face book, You Tube or blogs.

Macedonia: Face to Face with the Citizens

“Face to face with the citizens” is a project that aims to increase the quantity and the quality of the stories related to socially engaged topics and practice as well as to strengthen the civic journalism in the country. More, it has a goal of involving people to report and react on topics that are socially engaged, a step that will justify the benefits of the active citizenship and civic journalism. “Face to face with the citizens” basis its concept on establishing the need for active citizenship.

Madagascar: TA.ZA.MI

The TA.ZA.MI abbreviation stands for Tanora Zandry Miblog and translated literally as Younger Young Blogging. This project is mainly intended to train and to encourage young motivated people to create blogs by using social networking tools such as: WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, etc to enable local younger generations to create, share, and rank development activities which may unlock their hidden knowledges, cultures, stories and ability to act on environmental issues within our community. Kenya: e-Agriculture Community Domain Project

A number of youths have failed to secure formal employment and hence resorted to small scale farming. However, they are yet to break through the market ceiling due to lack of information on various platforms available to market their produce. Therefore, this project will be a blessing in time to the young farmers. Being knowledgeable on the social channels they can exploit in increasing their agricultural productivity will reduce household poverty levels. Currently, rural poverty stands at 47 per cent.We will meet them in the villages.

Nepal: Saving Indigenous Voices

The project seeks to document the indigenous folklores of Eastern Nepal which is on the verge of extinction. The project will search and document the folklores, meeting with the original artists who are approaching their seventies and eighties and the tradition seems to be extinct after their death. The folklores like Birhain, Chachair, Parati which are sung at a particular time of the day will be recorded in SounCloud and disseminated widely.

Nepal: Blind Tweets to Blind World Cup Cricket

The project aims to prepare a team of blind Twitter users in Nepal. They will contribute to the Twitteratti tweeting about the issues and concerns of totally and partially blind people. They will tweet vigorously during the Blind World Cup being played in South Africa this November.

Pakistan: Turning Tears of Silence into Voices

We propose community journalism training focusing on child marriages in Pakistan and train young community journalists to use digital media to report the cases and stories of child marriages. The project will amplify the voices of child brides , their plight and their miseries but will also help debunk several myths around child marriages in Pakistan. The initiative will help community understand when young children (girls and boys) are married a vicious cycle of poverty, violence, poor health, limited education and discrimination begins and leads to other violations such as domestic violence.

India: Kondh Tribal Women's Empowerment

The project will use new technologies to make a campaign, visualization and awareness against gender violence. Tribal and Dalit Women will understand that the role of women in making the district and state to be powerful only through equal gender participation and by avoiding violence against women; in order to uproot a cultural pattern of legitimization of violence against women within and outside the communities achieving recognition of the existence and enforcement of human rights to which indigenous women and dalits against violence and higher particpation of women in local governance

Pakistan: Capacity Building on Minority Rights

The term minority rights come from human rights. Human rights are, as such, the foundation of minority rights. The Members of minority communities have all human rights because we all are human being. The unique and often marginalized situation of minorities means, in addition, they have minority rights.
