India: Virtual Resource Pool for Disability Issues in Namakkal

Society of Education Research for Village Improvement and Community Empowerment, a NGO based at Namakkal in Tamilnadu,India. We have been working for the various issues of disability in Namakkal & Karur districts in Tamilnadu,India with community & institution based approaches. We also run a special school for the mentally challenged children. We would like to bring in the participation of the medical experts, trainers, physiotherapists and other resource agencies to the rehabilitation of the disabled children in various forms and to create a virtual resource pool to address these issues.

Pakistan: Sanitary Workers Rights movement in AJK

Sanitary workers are the poorest persons and are victimized by the local communities, concerned departments for the tough working hours, low wages, temporary employment,social and cultural exclusion,political victimization.Being the most ignored people having no employment rights, can be terminated anytime without any legal base by the government authorities due to political weakness and usually not granted the right to vote in the general elections.This project will have to support the movement protect their rights being the human and being the state servants.

Pakistan: Awaz Program (Voices Program)

JAAGO FOUNDATION is working on the basic rights of women and young girls in Pakistan. Firstly, through the customs, traditions and the tribal system here restrict women's rights is called. There are so many issues for girls in this situation. Badin, where we are working on the Lockheed-Martin.Nearly 80 percent of the people reached by radio. 77% has reached mobile and 46% net. We managed to both boys and girls of girls ‘ rights and information successes of their own radio, mobile and networking through to young girls. And let their legal education, consciousness and awareness.

The procedures – Taking help local administration, local NGOs and local peoples, create an open platform for discussion.

India: The Road Ahead – India’s Unheard Voices

Forced displacement happens due to natural or manmade disaster, social and political unrest/conflict, ecological/climate change or development (e.g. industrial projects, dam construction, etc). In India, the people that are most vulnerable to this are scheduled castes, indigenous and tribal people, often very poor and uneducated – but most of all, unheard or worse yet, silenced. Our project involves citizen reporting. Mobile phones with inbuilt audio recorders are low-cost tools that enable us to easily connect and communicate. Our hope is to bring attention toward their experiences and needs.

Nepal: Making the Unheard Voices of Squatters Heard

Squatter problem is serious in Nepal. They don’t have fixed land & reside in Government lands. Thus, they have mental threats about demolition of their houses by governmental and political forces. Proposed project will be executed in squatter area of Mangalpur of Chitwan. Media like photographs, blogging and video will be used to reveal squatters’ status and problems faced by low caste squatter to sustain their culture, will also be exposed. At last, the project aims to focus attention of civil societies, government and universities in addressing problem of squatter society of 30 households.

CGnet Swara is a verbal news platform – a mobile-phone service that allows people to upload and listen to reports in their ownlanguages, providing a communication outlet for media dark zones that usually do not find space in mainstream media. Reported stories are moderated by journalists and become available for playback online as well as over the phone. Villagers drop a missed call on CGNet’s server, which then calls them back, and records their reports.By appointing a moderator/trainer for Bhil tribals, we aim to replicate the success achieved with ‘Gond’ and ‘Baiga’ tribals in Central India

Sohela, in Bargarh district of Odisha, India is a town which is still facing many problems such as Caste Discrimination, Labour Wages Problem, Drugs Abuse, Misuse of Government Funds by authorities, etc. Most people here are willing to fight against this evils but don't have proper knowledge or channel to express their views. I want to train youths and women from the grassroots in various forms of Citizen Journalism so that they can channelize their voice and issues in a proper to advocate for their rights and let the everybody hear them. I want to hand them over the power of media.

Bangladesh: CANCER Project in Moulvibazar

In Moulvibazar the literacy rate is significantly low and there is little knowledge and awareness on harmful effect of tobacco use. The poor day labourers, adibashi, women, boys, teachers, religious leaders, Mattabbar, UP Members, Chairmans take beedis, cigarettes, tobacco with betel leaf and other tobacco products ignoring country's legislation and FCTC convention. CANCER (Cooperation & Assistance for Narcotic Control for Enlighten Human Resources) Project aims to educate/capacitated to local level administration and community for ensuring smoke free environment involving UP/Village Courts.
