We will set up first a social Forum for Mariamulata Cultural Center, then an internet radio station open to local and communitarian use. The oral tradition and storytelling roots are rich as music and culture. How to take advantage of technology for empowerment and appropriation is what should be learn.

We want to give IT and communication training to orphaned young women and girls so that they can both use computers confidently and know how to post their own inspiring stories on to the new Shingirirai website on how they have survived the fallout of HIV/AIDS and moved on to become leaders and involved in community support programs. With the skills acquired they can act as communication channels to connect with young people in other countries.

Uganda: Digital Empowerment to the Vulnerable

I propose to bring together online different migrant groups living in Yeoville, Johannesburg, South Africa. The migrant groups will use the online platform to showcase their best in terms of clothing, culture, food or something they feel proud about. It will be a forum whereby they can interact and learn about different cultures while learning how to use social media. I plan to have an online competition for the best dressed person/food/picture.

Kenya: WOES-Walking on Egg Shells

WOES-Walking on Egg Shells is an initiative that seeks to promote progressive re-integration of ex-prisoners in their communities by blogging their struggles to fit in the community from the first day they were released from prison to bring about acceptance and to avoid the situation whereby they feel like they are walking on eggs shells because every one looks at them suspiciously once they know that they were once offenders.

The project ‘Attire Base Youth Parliament’ will enable youth to use new media such as videos, and the internet to share their stories to the world. These youth will have the opportunity to discuss issues that impact them such as sports, to daily life of survival, to politics, economic and social issues that affect them and the country and document them online and via video media. These discussions are mature, sensible, sensitive and debatable.
