We want to have a website in order to register and recall Andean music in the central region of my country, Peru, with the participation of the families and institutions of music. This will help our society to better understand one of the lines of our cultural identity as the basis of our development.
This pilot digital literacy project uses feminist methodologies to train 20 women to create podcasts to tell their stories of struggle and empowerment, and share them with other women through social networks and online radio, providing them with tools to confront the multiple violences they have faced. The participants are domestic workers, sexual workers, street vendors, some are also formerly incarcerated. They have recently learned to read and write in La Escuela Mujeres de Frente. This project allows these recent graduates to stay connected to the project and learn new skills.
From February 2013, Joan Serra Montagut is coordinating a book edition project that is building – through a collective work of 500 young people from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize and El Salvador – a collection of 12 books about 12 important aspects of the human life (heritage, art, identity, women, etc.). Each one is made in one different city from San Salvador to San Cristóbal de Las Casas. The aim of the project is to strengthen nets through books and new medias in the youth from this geographic area made of 5 countries promoting reading, the knowledge of the own identity and freedom.
This project aims will train 20 youth representatives from different communities and cultural groups in Port Vila to use citizen media to research and document their unique cultures, customs and languages. Participants will create digital products of their choice (photo essay, video, audio recording etc.) that will be shared via an online blog to promote increased intercultural learning amongst urban youth.
The Reel Time Project is a school of citizen journalism focusing on equipping young girls aged 13 to 18 from marginalised Zimbabwean Communities with the necessary skills and technology to document and share innovative stories. The objective is to increase the diversity and plurality of information in and from around Zimbabwe through the use of an application called StoryMaker while teaching the girls how to develop and edit short stories using mobile phones. This will enable the girls to engage the world in discussions about issues affecting them.
Madagascar is a country where Internet takes bigger and bigger place. Betwen 2007 and 2011, the number of internaut has quadriplued. People look after informations, jobs and several opportunities. Blogs can respond to these several needings however blogging word is quiet weel-known yet. There are bloggers whon leaved adventures because of a lack of motivation and recognition. That's why the idea of a “Madagascar Blog Awards” to contribute in the spreading of freedom of expression.
The project involves the recovery, restoration, classification and production of a digital archive of a part and some sections of the children's magazine “The Chaski” published in Bolivia between the 80s and 2000, for posterior publication in a Web Site who contribute development and integral education of Bolivian children in school age, creating a space for free expression and promotion of reading and writing through digital supports as a first step to stop the digital divide: proposing from the website an information and interaction place for children.
The training of trainers workshop will focus on equipping indigenous women living in the front lines of conflicts (who are involved in peace efforts and or victims, survivors or witnesses) with digital knowledge and citizen media skills that will help them document and share their stories on and best practices in conflict resolution and peace building, with a global audience. These women are the most vulnerable in conflict situations and they lack time, skills and opportunities that will amplify the efforts they are making to promote love, dialogue, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.
Kenya has over 40 tribes that make a rich and diverse culture. Each of these have distinctive rich stories that have been passed on from generation to generation around fireplaces in the rural areas. These stories were used to teach morals, etiquette, and other social norms, to preserve traditions, and to act as oral historic records of family migrations, significant occurrences and so on.Since most of these stories were passed on orally, there are very few written or recorded accounts in existence. We therefore want to capture these stories and preserve a large knowledgebase of our stories.
