A photograph of Ampote Mango, a participant of RV's grantee project in Guinea-Bissau, was recently selected to be included in an exhibit at the newly-inaugurated Casa dos Direitos in the capital city of Bissau. The photograph taken during an outing as part of a workshop, captures the power of citizen media for women to tell their own stories.
Rising Voices Year in Review 2011
Rising Voices looks back at some of the highlights from our work in 2011, including welcoming new grantees, forging new partnerships, and organizing citizen media outreach events. We would also like to thank all those that accompany us on our mission of working towards a global online space much more representative with greater participation by all.
Guinea-Bissau: Heavy Rains Damage Local School
The months between June and October are considered to be the rainy season in Guinea-Bissau, which can affect daily life throughout the country. A school used as a meeting place for the RV grantee Youth Voices of Bandim and Enterramento suffered heavy damage as a result of these storms.

The Rising Voices grantee project "Youth Voices of Bandim and Enterramento" was recently featured in the newest episode of the Global Voices podcast. Listen to hear some of the sounds of the Manjuandadi group, a women's singing group in the capital city of Bissau.
Guinea-Bissau: International Day of the African Child
The Rising Voices grantee project "Youth Voices of Bandim and Enterramento" recently celebrated the International Day of the African Child on June 16th in Bissau with film screenings, lectures, debates, music, drama, and traditional dances all focusing on the rights of children.
Guinea-Bissau: Introduction to Youth Voices of Bandim and Enterramento
One of the newest Rising Voices grantee projects "Youth Voices of Bandim and Enterramento" based in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau is providing leadership opportunities for the youth organizers, who will be working with children in two local neighborhoods of the capital city teaching them how to use digital media tools as way to showcase life in their communities.
Announcing the Newest Rising Voices Grantees
Rising Voices is pleased to announce the five newest members to join its global community of citizen media grantees. Each of the selected projects will receive microgrants to implement their proposed project to teach others how to use various citizen media tools.
